Sorry if it is a stupid question but I've seen it mentioned but not exactly sure what it is about.

It's how long it's safe to wait to pick up dropped food if you have a really strong stomach and effective immune system.

It's an unwritten rule that we don't assign blame or stump for specific actions after things like the Orlando shooting for 72 hours. It helps reduce (but obviously doesn't prevent) knee jerk comments.

Unfortunately in the Orlando thread the gungrabbers rotated between calling for the 72 hour rules, predictions that pro 2nd people were going to start blaming Islamic extremeist, and attacking gun ownership.

Same here.

When I Googled it, I got info on hospital-discharge policies, a topic I wasn't keen to delve into.

Ooh, yeah, no. The "4 hour" thing isn't additive. It's not like it's okay to not lose an erection for 8 hours if you took 2.

FR

I thought the 72 hour rule referred to some places in this country enforcing a "cool down" period before you can buy a gun. Well not buy it, but receive it.

I wouldn't be surprised if you knew that by heart.
And I can see your confusion as some of the very people calling for it seemed to think it only counted for those who disageed with them.

Which is what they did.

I've also seen 72 hours suggested as a cooling down period after somebody says something really fucking stupid and embarrassing on a social media. That doesn't seem to happen in here either.

Hadn't heard of that one before. Is that actually a thing here or is it only a rule during civilised discussion?
