June 19, 2016 Rinse. Repeat. Dear Ones --- Recent weeks have brought a welcome, nay overdue, ending and a less-than-welcome beginning. The ending was the word that the surgical wound on my bottom, dating from my 2014 colostomy operation, has finally healed. It took two years, another operation, a 10-week hospital stay, 100 hyperbaric "dives," and a cadre of leeches to reach this finish line, so I'm incredibly grateful. Unfortunately, my medical adventures didn't end with that happy news. A recent biopsy revealed a dollop of colon cancer in my left lung. Apparently, it's an offshoot of the rectal tumor that started all this excitement. My oncologist is confident that we can "fix it," probably by means of CyberKnife, a form of intensely focused high-power radiation. He assured me that this won't be the same ordeal I had last time. Fingers crossed. Tomorrow morning, I go for a PET scan to see if the cancer has colonized any other bits of my body. I should have the results in a few days. As ever, thanks for all your kindness and support! Cheers, DC
