He came in dead last.

He fell twice within a few feet of the finish line.

He got up and kept going.

He finished the race, and I defy anyone to begrudge him a trophy.

What I found funny about the NFL player the op quoted was that he wasn't a winner. He didn't get named league MVP, he didn't get a Super Bowl ring. Basically he's just another participant. Talk about hypocrisy.

He's not a winner? He made it to the NFL (the top .5% of football players) Been to the Pro Bowl 5 times and has TWO superbowl rings, team MVP TWICE and holds the record for the longest interception and the longest interception return.

I think he can be classified as a winner.

Football isn't my thing, hence a probably obvious question: Does everyone on the team get a Super Bowl ring?

It's a team sport, so yes. But, even on his own James Harrison was a very good player -726 tackles and 76.5 Quarterback sacks.

People with handicaps. I have no issue with giving them the credit. It's harder than an ordinary healthy human being able to do the same sport if you are handicap. So they already took the harder path to get there, with a huge disadvantage. In many ways, when we compete against handicaps. They are giving us the handicap. We are the ones taking the easier way. In that case, to me, they are champions, as I would have never won a handicap person fairly. I would never consider it a win at all, IF I ever beat a handicap person. I don't deserve that trophy, they do.

But with all things fair, not everybody should get a trophy. The participation token gift should be something less significant. Unless it's team sports, then winning team obviously gets it.

I was thinking, I completely agree with that dad who discredited his son's trophy. But as a parent, putting on a parent hat, you want to do what is best for the psychological development of the child, rather than want fairness. IF one wants fairness, your own kids getting those trophy for doing nothing IS super unfair!

But if it will hurt their self esteem or development, you might have to shut up about what you feel about it. That's what I believe. After all, your child's interest will come first.

But I imagine if I had kids, I will groom them to be athletic, although this will be difficult in this digital age, where all the kids wanna do is play games on the ipad or laptop with their friends.

I brought my friend's 5 yr old rock climbing, who barely do any sports, as the mom is rather unfit and is worried she can't run after him, running around, and he was completely enjoying himself. He called it relaxing when he was up there ha! It might be just finding the right sport.

How does somebody else getting some trophy that says "Participant" in any way diminish your trophy saying whatever you placed? Do you need other people to get nothing to validate your efforts? Are you really that invested in being "better"?

It completely diminished the value of my trophy. Who cares what's written on it.

It's like, if everybody gets an ipad whether they win or not. And one ipad has "winner" engraved on it and the other has "participation" engraved on it. It would be shitty! I would rather just participate and not win, I'd get the ipad anyway!

It's like working the same job, one person doing much less, and getting paid AS MUCH as you!

It's not fair! It will make me very angry at the unfairness of that. If that happened to me as a kid. I would have quit, and not put in a single effort the following year for sure. It teaches me bothering any effort does not pay more.

When I work, I work for income, and I would definitely work less IF working less is the same reward as working more. Which can happen in working to your benefit. And the result is, to put in least effort for maximum rewards. When I do sports, I want something that not everybody can get their hands on without putting in the brutal work, it's a special achievement that require dedication and will power to put in the work to achieve it.

So I am not gonna put in any output if I get the similar maximum rewards for like, not even working for it.

I think of my friends who train running 10km per week day and 80km each sat and sun, to do well in 100km ultra trail runs. Imagine if EVERYBODY Got a participation trophy for just like doing 5km. OMFG!

I think about so much of their time devoted to running and some idiot never run a day in his life, walks in, participates, and gets it. Awful!

How? The trophy is worth exactly what it always was

Who cares what's written on it.

If that's the case, then why bother even giving out any trophies?

Stupid fucking analogy, it is nothing like that.

No it's not, it's nothing like the same.
quote:

It's not fair!

Of course it is, you are not being impacted in any way, well except that your ego takes a hit because you can't lord it over the losers.

It will make me very angry at the unfairness of that.

Therapy will help with that.

And I can't be bothered with the rest of your whiny entitled egotistical bullshit.
