I don't think there is a lot crossover between the anti-homo countries implicated by the corollary to dcnovice's map and the countries with nascent free-speech concerns mentioned in the article referenced by the OP.

I think the countries implied in the article are primarily those in north America, western Europe, Oz and NZ.

Yes, all the countries in white are those in which at least some discrimination occurs for a variety of reasons.

People discriminate against each other on the basis of race, religion, skin color, culture, social group, body type, eye color, language, sexual preference, sexual identity, sexual desirability, lexical ability, charisma, social status, income level, intelligence, body fat percentage and anything else they can come up with. That's human beings and a crap-load of people in the gay community do exactly the same thing.

I don't have a problem with the gay community fighting for human rights. I do have a problem with them playing the victim and pretending life is a paradise if you're straight. Or white. Or male. Or a combination or all of the above. Sexual orientation is only one axis of discrimination and straight people do not sail through life simply because they prefer tab A to go into slot B.

I second this. I don't talk with you much DC, but I see you on this and the other site and I admire the way you comport yourself and the way you handle everything that has been thrown your way. You have a strength and courage that I don't know that I could muster if in the same situation.

Like I said, I don't talk directly to people on here much, so I haven't passed on to you my admiration the many times that you have prompted it, but what Cub said here really resonated with me today and I wanted you to know.

I'm more moved than I can say by the kind things folks have said. Thank you so very much.

It brings to mind a favorite story about JFK. He was asked how he'd mustered the heroism he'd shown in World War II. His matter-of-fact reply: "It was involuntary. They sank my boat."

On a far more modest scale, my story is one of batting the best I can at life's curve balls. It all stems, I think, from what I half-jokingly call "the true secret of resilience": lack of other options. [:)]

But hey, if we're going to run with the idea that being a victim is nothing more than an assumed status, then I assume these young, straight, heterosexual males would be more than happy to have us rewrite our laws thereby swapping the positions of these poor, victim-status-less white guys with those happy go lucky gays who have life handed to them on a silver platter. What better way to prove the correctness of their position than by demonstrating it, right?
