Kirata -> A Country Divided (7/16/2016 5:52:30 AM)

The only thing Americans seem to agree on is that we're heading down the wrong road....

[image]http://binaryapi.ap.org/37b21b1d322a405da27af7fdac396a18/460x.jpg[/image]

A stunning 79 percent of Americans now believe the country is heading in the wrong direction, a 15-point spike in the past year, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll. Voters are strikingly unhappy with the candidates who will be on the ballot this fall, with only 22 percent saying they would be proud to see Trump win and 27 percent to see Clinton. ~AP

Awareness -> RE: A Country Divided (7/16/2016 7:32:00 AM)

Bernie Sanders was the clearly superior choice... and yet African Americans voted for the woman who called them super-predators and supported the massive growth of the private prison industry which led to so many of their fathers and brothers being incarcerated.

Like.... what's wrong with this picture?

WickedsDesire -> RE: A Country Divided (7/16/2016 7:38:44 AM)

And yet they voted for these candidates, did they not. Perhaps there is something faulty with their brain sprockets - such as a hobgoblin invasion, that rendered them quite barking mad.

edited to add
awareness Bernie Sanders was the clearly superior choice. He was indeed.

So the largest percent (79-22-27 = 30%) will be sitting home eating nachos, drinking beer with tequila boilermakers, and making the best choices.[:D]

Marini -> RE: A Country Divided (7/16/2016 10:19:10 AM)

These have to be the worse candidates running {that I can recall}, since I turned 18.
I am one of those people who was excited to be able to vote at 18, and I have voted in every major election since then.

As criminally pathetic as it is, {because having these two to pick from, should be a felony crime} I WILL certainly vote!!!!!
I tend to often be "old school", and I take voting and the RIGHT to vote, seriously.

We should all rise up and protest these candidates, it's a national disgrace.
Shame on this entire country, for allowing them to be the nominees.

Bring on the Presidential nightmare.
The day after Election Day, I suggest we all wear black and have a national day of mourning.
This country will need it.

an interesting exit poll question would be "did you vote for your candidate predominantly because of your opposition to the other candidate?"

Well according to the OP's poll if it goes that way, yes and by a...3-1 margin.

bounty44 -> RE: A Country Divided (7/16/2016 5:48:11 PM)

that's not quite what it says.

the poll is listing percentages for each of the five reasons/justifications given. the 75% who responded to the "don't like the other candidate" doesn't actually speak to the predominance of that category as a reason, only that more people hold that reason.

that is, the poll didn't rank the reasons.

the most we can say is that its the number 1 reason for ~12% of the people polled---the difference between the first two reasons. but even that's sketchy because of the possibility of other reasons that the poll did not include.

Clinton and Trump are NOT the only two candidates running in this election.

Vote with whichever candidate best represents your beliefs about the role of government. This should be what you've done since we all reached voting age. I'm not throwing stones, as I'm one of the ones that hasn't always done that. [:(]

Your thread reads 'opposition to' and the poll used the words...'opposed the' other candidate.

So the difference is 'supporting a candidate' and 'voting for a candidate.' It would be reasonable to assume and yes, even conclude that people vote for the candidate...they support.

The odds of a write in getting elected are slim and none, and slim left town.

Frankly I think MacCane, Dole, Jeb Bush, and what's his name on the last repub ticket much worse. It was just the hierarchy telling us who they wanted. At least this year it's pissing the hierarchy (well the repug hierarchy the dems still have the crook) off.

There's no louder message to the status quo (which both Trump and Clinton represent in their own uniquely poor ways) as voting for a third party candidate.

It's very interesting actually. This means African American community are not swayed by free education and free healthcare. They actually do not care for that.

Why don't they like Bernie? Do black people like Jews generally?

Wow! You mean doctors, nurses, teachers and school administrators are going to show up to work and not expect a paycheck. Contractors will donate everything, including labor, to build hospitals and schools. Drug companies and medical device manufacturers are going to give away all of their products. What a nice Pollyanna world. I want to live in that one.

There's a third party whose candidates will appear on ballots across the US, no write-in necessary. Besides, wouldn't a write-in (eg "Mickey Mouse") be the very definition of wasting one's vote?

Getting a little deeper into elections, why shouldn't anyone running for presidency appear on every ballot? Why are there rules about who can and cannot appear on a ballot?

Haha, but I am referring to the belief that African Americans are usually the people who will be more interested in hand outs and welfare benefits right?

But you got this Jewish white dude, handing out free education and free health care. And none of the African Americans bite.

And on top of that, this Jewish white dude is gonna tax the rich 90% to pay for it. African Americans did not bite.

To me this is a very good sign for their community. It means that majority really do not want free hand outs.

With respect Greta, I think you may not understand the point to Afican Americans preferring the Crook. Bernie was an old Yankee white guy and Clinton (the rapist not the rape justifier and crook) was perceived as the first black president. The crook goes down south and fakes a black accent when she talks to the and offers them stuff just for them. Bernie offers free stuff for everyone which doesn't make African Americans special. Besides the African American political hierarchy is part of the democrat establishment which is represented by the crook. Bernie offers to bust that establishment. So the African American political elite throw in with the crook. Just my opinion.

Besides, Obama, the actual first black president supports the crook. He has to in order to preserve his, such as it is, legacy.

Yes they do though they probably shouldn't. Jews were instrumental in the slave trade, even before this country was founded. In a bunch of other countries as well, if you wanted slave they were the people to call. One Pope is known to bitch about them circumcising Christian slaves. Now mind you what this means, is that it was so long ago the Vatican condoned slavery. They have always been in the business and actually still are.

But Israel doesn't like Bernie, and Bernie is not going to kiss their ass. He has not in the senate, why think he would do otherwise in the big chair, where he actually can't take bribes, like to attack Iran n shit like that ? Too bad the idiots running the supposedly "democratic" party are shutting him down. The media money against him worked, but the media money against Trump did not. And you call the republicans stupid ? Promoting a broad who would have a hard time beating Jeffrey Daumer while sidelining a guy who could actually win. Even anti-Semites would vote for Sanders. But with Clinton running, we might just have President Trump.
