ORIGINAL: Aylee She had a guy that she got engaged to and was going to elope with but her family were very upset by the whole thing, so there is a very good chance that she did. Okay Aylee, give me some insight here into female thinking, emotions and logic. Assuming the era of Helen Keller where women had much less freedom. Assuming societal and family opinion had more control over the actions of a woman (just a subcategory of the assumption above). Would: A) Pure emotional desire outside of physical considerations impel a woman to elope and leave her society and family, B) Emotions are involved with a strong desire to taste the forbidden fruit impel a woman to elope and leave her society and family, C) Bonding emotions are involved but having tasted the forbidden fruit wanting more impel a woman to... D) Pure desire to gorge on the forbidden fruit impel a woman to elope... Hmm. . . she was in her 30's and the guy had been sent to act as her secretary for a while. My guess is they had feelings for each other but the family/friends did not approve because of their different social classes. Since Keller was a socialist/communist, the class difference did not mean anything. On the other hand, it could be that he was the first non-family male that she spent much time with. So A. She really was in love with him. Well reasoned, in my opinion. Since, as you say she was a communist, she apparently had probably already left the confines of society/family mores and was just waiting for a fulfillment. Obviously she was a strong woman who lived in her times and your explanation would explain her possible actions.
