Marini -> Peat and Repeat /Repeat Talkers (7/21/2016 7:57:09 PM)

I have been aware that I often repeat myself for years.
This is something I work on in real life and across most settings.

I am going to be the first one to admit, that I have repeated myself often on this forum, for years.
I try to cut down on it, by often not commenting, once I have made my point {by repeating something I have probably said for years}.

It's fascinating to see people that will repeat the same point repeatedly on one thread, and then continue to repeat the same mantra on hundreds of similar threads.
In fact, many people around here repeat the same lines so much, you have an idea what they will say without even reading the thread.

I realize beliefs, opinions, thoughts and feelings often remain the same throughout your life.
It's refreshing when people can at least express the same ideas, in a different manner.
I enjoy posters that at least give examples, background, or history to enhance they're "opinions".
Then I can understand why they feel that way, even if my opinion does not change.
I enjoy these boards, reading others opinions and debating at times.
I enjoy agreeing to disagree at the end of the day.
Often, those that have the time to type the same things on every thread, and one million times a month, are like the man on the corner screaming at people!
Did you hear me??!!!

Any thoughts on peat and repeat?
Do most political/religious message boards end up being fertile soil for peat and repeat?

But that is normal.
I know what ALL my friends are gonna say before they say it, for almost every issue and situation. I know what sides they will take. Because when you get to know a person, you know where they stand on everything.
Because you know their positions on the issues.

And in life, repeated issues happens over and over again.

The fun is the banter, especially if they are friends with opposing views.

I'm the only Pro-Trump person among all my friends locally here. They all ridicule me endlessly about it, but that's okay :) As I said, the only media they read from the US is Huff Post. And all they read is headlines. And I have American Conservative friends who HATES the hell out of Trump because they believe his a fake Republican with no Republican values at all and how his gonna bring GOP down to hell ha.

And my best friend is American, and such a staunch Hillary supporter, I tease him all the time about how Trump is gonna win, and he should throw in a vote for Trump on my behalf and his just like, I'm dreaming, never gonna happen. It's funnier when we watch news together and are flipping between left and right media reporting.

Yes, and I find myself doing it from time to time.

SunDominant -> RE: Peat and Repeat /Repeat Talkers (7/21/2016 10:19:19 PM)

Thanks, I can occasionally pull it off.

Seriously, I did used to repeatedly argue the same point from different angles, for years and years on the bondage.com politics forum. During that time, I learned two things:

1. You can instantly tell the people who are actually interested in exchanging ideas, despite having a different viewpoint.

2. The other people are hardly worth the time it takes to hit the Ignore button.

Overall, politics boards have been a great experienced for me. Discussions on them make me examine my own morals and ethical system in great detail. This, along with relationships I have developed there, have even occasionally changed my mind on major issues.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: Peat and Repeat /Repeat Talkers (7/21/2016 10:22:03 PM)

A third thing to add to that is the fact that nobody ever won an argument, especially about religion and/or politics.

Thanks for being light hearted about it.

But that sure as hell, does not keep them from trying!
Look around, lol

I know marini.......................I watch it and just shake my head at the pig-headed stupidity of those that are laughingly called 'homo-sapiens'.............a lot of them would never make it past 'homo erectus' if they were properly examined. and then we have the ones who seem to suffer from some form of coprolalia that just make me want to turn them upside down and shake them to see what DOES actually fall out of their mouths.

But it's not about winning.

Let's put it this way, if you completely cannot comprehend the other person's point of view. You keep questioning it over and over again, because you still don't understand.

That's learning.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: Peat and Repeat /Repeat Talkers (7/21/2016 10:57:07 PM)

On here, many of those arguing believe it to be all about winning and if they can't win, they change the subject or go off on a completely nonsensical tangent, or they proclaim that the other person is too stupid to understand. I have a reasonably high I.Q. and I am quite happy with what I know about what I already know, but if there IS anything I want to learn about anything at all, it is rare that I would ask any of the so-called geniuses and heroes on here greta. I will go to google, or go to the library and find a book on the subject.
Why would I want to understand somebody else's point of view on something I already have a hard and fast point of view on ?....................again, it is an argument nobody is going to win. If you believe some of the idiotic points of view on here, you would come to believe you are phoquing stupid or a felcher ( whatever that is ) and that greta is what's known as coprolalia from that individual.

To me, it's never about winning.
When you are on two opposing ends of the spectrum. The reasoning and conclusion of somebody who thinks completely different from you is always an interesting read to how they reach that conclusion or their point of view. How boring it would be, personally for me to correspond with anybody who agrees with me 101% on everything. That would suck. I would be bored.

The reason why it's better to hear it from another ordinary human being is that, you can ask questions.

Reading articles is a one way street.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: Peat and Repeat /Repeat Talkers (7/21/2016 11:42:40 PM)

So you will accept a conclusion that usually ends " Jesus you are phoquing stupid" ? I learned a lot from that. I learned that that correspondent was an ill-mannered, ignorant, blinkered, short-sighted, keyboard-bullying asshole. I also learned where the 'hide' button is. I see no reason to communicate with people who just go out of their way to upset and be annoying.
I have a poem called ' If ' by Rudyard Kipling on my wall, as well as the Desiderata. Both give very sound advice I find.
Articles can be read that show many points of view, (read a number of differing articles on the same subject), and there are not too many of them in which the writer is acting like a spoiled, bullying brat in the schoolyard.

That specific individual is just senile, lonely and old. Senile is the big word, that's why you can't learn anything enlightening from him at all.
But fortunately most users on here aren't on his level and are still able to explain their point of view sanely.

PS: I usually prefer older guys in my bed specifically, most of the time, they are more mature and wiser than me, but age can come with a form of dementia that brings about senile behaviour. I've experienced it with my grandparents too. Thus my usage of the word "old". I feel insulted on behalf of old people that, generally, the impression of being older and wiser is being ruin by Thompson.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: Peat and Repeat /Repeat Talkers (7/22/2016 12:07:52 AM)

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirt *smile*. ......................From the Desiderata

I stumbled over enough of those when I was younger and looking for a fight. These days, I prefer a quiet life with as few hassles as possible *smile*

MrRodgers -> RE: Peat and Repeat /Repeat Talkers (7/22/2016 7:19:22 AM)

Sometimes maybe a few think things and I sometimes would agree...need repeating.

I'm guessing, but I dont know, that he's gotten in trouble in the past for using the "F**k" word and now uses a substitute.
