noaxis -> Thoughts on a new site/app? (7/31/2016 4:32:14 PM)

If this topic comes up all the time, PLEASE ignore me! I'm very new to CS.

I'm curious to hear from other CS users, what are the top features/changes you want to see? I've been here less than a week so I can't speak with much authority but here's what I've noticed that would improve the site substantially:

* Verified accounts of some kind - About 90% of the slave profiles appear to be scammers. The most obvious signs are single pictures, no bios, phone numbers and email addresses published, and horrible grammar/punctuation. But, I do think it detracts from the community. Just to see what would happen, I followed one conversation through to texting until "she" finally sent Moneygram instructions :) I can't believe it ever works, but maybe it does... Anyway - major, major scammer problem on here in my limited experience.

* Improved UI / reduced features - To my eye, it would help to pair down the UI quite a bit. Make it easier to browse/search, track who you've already seen, easier picture uploading, etc.

* Some type of featured member or premium level for those of us who are extra serious about being seen

Ok well I'd love to hear back from anyone.

The whole site would need to be redesigned from the ground up to make it decent. There is a lot that could be done to improve the experience of users. According to my understanding, this site is essentially a hobby. So don't expect any major revamps.

Edited to add: Typically there will be some snarky 'well, take your money and go elsewhere' or 'here's your refund' type comments by the peanut gallery for these kinds of posts. We'll see if the commentariat lives up to these low expectations.

One one level that is surprising because I think the M/s lifestyle is so important to many of us, including women I know who consistently report a shortage of Masters.

On another level, I can see that it's a classic ASP site which takes me back at least 15 years, and yeah, I doubt it would still be ASP after all these years if it were more than a hobby.

Is it possible that this segment of the kink/dating community is being underserved? I don't know what all the choices are, but I see Fetlife as actively avoiding the online dating segment and sites like alt and dbsmsingles are pretty much immediate pay walls.

I guess I'm wondering why I haven't found a more thriving M/s dating platform.

Thanks for all the info!

Wayward5oul -> RE: Thoughts on a new site/app? (7/31/2016 5:33:13 PM)

The site has been in decline for some time now. Frankly, several of us wonder if there are even moderators anymore as they let a lot of stuff go that are explicitly against TOU, both on this side and the other.

It is my understanding that they rely on volunteer help a lot, and some of the people on here now have volunteered in the past, which I think is why when this complaint comes up, you get a lot of responses along the lines of "its a free site, if you don't like it, you don't have to use it". They have invested their own time to facilitate the site. I have seen a few people openly volunteer their services to help with some of the current site issues, but as far as I know they have not been taken up on that.

As far as scammers go, I see them on every site, but never as many as this site has. However, I am one of those who would not like some sort of verification system, as those can either be easily faked, or they require more identifying info than a lot of people are willing to give, including myself.

Yep I already sent them a note about that :) 20 years web dev exp

Do you have suggestions or thoughts on how to improve things? A database of 2.5 million users is great, but I think only about 500 are active. I can't help wondering how many more would be here if it were cleaned up. There is no shortage of kinksters, is M/s too niche?

CarpeComa -> RE: Thoughts on a new site/app? (7/31/2016 5:52:10 PM)

I have lots. It is 3rd on my list of major projects. Message me on the other side for details.

OsideGirl -> RE: Thoughts on a new site/app? (7/31/2016 6:41:42 PM)

I'm only here for the forums, don't care about beng verified and wouldn't join a site that expected me to.

ExiledSlave -> RE: Thoughts on a new site/app? (7/31/2016 7:06:30 PM)

Master says this site serves a good purpose in connecting like minded people. Verification is easy at a munch/event... if they show up, they could, maybe, possibly be real (Dictated by Master, slave did not roll her eyes one time over the last part).

littleladybug -> RE: Thoughts on a new site/app? (7/31/2016 7:10:07 PM)

Verification is simple. Actually meet the other party in person. Yup, absolute craziness.

bamabbwsub -> RE: Thoughts on a new site/app? (7/31/2016 7:39:47 PM)

Call me a skeptic, but I think the remaining owner doesn't really care much about the site, other than the revenue it brings in. If the freewebreport.com site is accurate:

Estimated Website Traffic Worth $362,307 US Dollars - 31 Jul 2016
Collarspace.com ranks #12,875 in the world and generates 165,437 Page views for daily. FreeWebsiteReport estimates Collarspace.com for a valuation of $362,307 USD for it's visitor traffic that has the potential for CPC and Display-based advertising. This traffic data suggests the Advertisers with a Traffic Acquisition Cost (TAC) of $496 for daily and $14,889 for monthly to spend on advertisements with Collarspace.com.

So, assuming he's raking in about $14K a month, maybe he's content and doesn't see any need to spend any time or money on an existing moneymaker. Just my 2c.

For long time even though the site was antiquated, it was still very active. Then after all the issues two years ago, the site took a big hit. And during the last two years, he's been dealing with health issues. So, it's natural at this point the site would move his list of priorities.

noaxis -> RE: Thoughts on a new site/app? (8/1/2016 1:01:00 PM)

@osidegirl do you know how to contact him? An email address or something? I'd really love to help out.

OsideGirl -> RE: Thoughts on a new site/app? (8/1/2016 1:07:36 PM)

I've PM'd you

DesFIP -> RE: Thoughts on a new site/app? (8/1/2016 1:08:48 PM)

Be aware that most women will not pay for access to a site like this nor give out their private info. So if it required verification the male to female ratio would be higher than 10,000 to 1. You really think that would improve things?

Spiritedsub2 -> RE: Thoughts on a new site/app? (8/1/2016 1:13:26 PM)

I think they call that ^ AshleyMadison.com

noaxis -> RE: Thoughts on a new site/app? (8/1/2016 1:16:04 PM)

Maybe there is a level of verification that would cut down on spammers without being too intrusive. Phone verification maybe? But honestly, it doesn't matter because nothing will work; if Facebook can't prevent fake accounts, nobody can. Just generally brainstorming about ways to cut down on the spam accounts.

I still wouldn't do verification. But, my goals here are different than most.

A few years ago, when the staff was more filled out - they had the time to go through and check new accounts. Pretty much any female from the Philippines got deleted and they checked IP addresses on the others (scammers aren't always very sophisticated). Anybody that posted wishlists or ways to pay them got deleted. Etc, Etc.

And while it didn't keep everybody out, it was a little better.

Yes, it comes up a lot, though usually in some form of a rant.

I'm going to take a quick stab at this and say that forum users would probably like to see ToS upheld. I know. Crazy idea, huh?

Do you know what's happening right now? There are some people over on the black and white site that are having an absolute fit that new accounts have to be a) invited by a current member or b) have to verify through text/cell phone.

A problem with this site in particular is something that was mentioned by Oside. About two years ago, they had an Admin/Support person who was divulging info about members to other members, against this site's own privacy policy. Those of us who know a thing or two about that will probably be the LAST people willing to verify anything through the site, itself. However, the majority of those same folks are the ones going to their local events, have met a lot of people on the site in person, have been known to talk to each other via phone, etc.

The picture thing has been messed up for a long time now.

You actually can track who you have already seen. (Sorry, Oside. Had to borrow a view on you there for a sec.) It's in this little section that says "Personal notes about this user (only visible to you)". This option is available on any profile where you have opened the full text.

The site's recommendation about that used to be to upload a picture because you can sort a search to just those with pictures only. Kind of a catch 22 since there's been a disclaimer that there is loading problem for new members at the time.

It might be a money maker for the site, if you meant something like paying for the privilege to be listed at the top under the 'search' feature for your location. However, I think you are looking at primarily men who would do that and a very, very small percentage of women. This site is legendary for women getting bombarded with worthless emails, especially in the first sixty days when they are on the 'new users' list, to the point where many hide their profiles in the first place. To even know if working on the code would make it cost effective to the site itself, you'd probably have to do some research on how many members would be willing to pay.

Frankly, if I were you, I'd probably just go to your local munch. I know your location has had some problems with consent violations recently. (I was just reading about one two or three days ago.) However, you can probably still get a good idea of decent events in your area. I know you have a chapter of MAsT (Masters and slaves together) in your town. That might be an idea for you.

I hope you'll enjoy your day.
