Interestingly, Justin was pressured by his manager not to perform at the RNC. More oppressive Left actions. He wanted to but his Manager threatened to leave him and quit so he chose his Manager.
Music should transcend politics and I think it's fundamentally wrong when musicians get involve in politics and punish their fans for not supporting the party of their choice.
Just like Third Eye Blind was in bad taste! For what they did.
Imagine if Vegan bands refused to play for meat eaters. (Which actually was true in the super staunch straightedge vegan hardcore scene), which is another thing since a teen, I always questioned, WTF! If you are vegan straightedge, all the more play for meat eaters to educate them and change them to stop eating meat. Same with left leaning musicians. Bring right leaning fans into your sphere and encourage them to join the left. Not isolate them. Bring the left and right together, and not participate in the war of making them feel divided further or alienated.
As much as I dislike Muslims, IF a band was asked to perform for Muslims, I think they definitely should. Music can change people, spread the "Leave Islam" message! Nofx, a US Punk band, came to my country and played a show for a crowd of 99% Muslims and ridiculed Islam, even play dress in hijab and shit and make fun. I tell ya, it was the most amazing show ever, especially I remember that year, I went to catch them in Australia first, and watch them twice in a roll, as their next stop is Singapore, and I got back in SG in time to catch them again! They didn't do that in their show in Australia, so their intent was specially knowing they are catering to a majority Muslim crowd here. They really made up different jokes in Australia that was more Australian related. But they are a band who is equal opportunity, make fun of everybody equally. They got a whole song ridiculing Bush. I won't be surprise if they are on stand by to write a new song ridiculing Trump as President.
I mean he was not asked to give a speech endorsing RNC, he was simply asked to entertain.
