Singapore is a country where our indigenous people, the Malays, are Muslims. So these Indonesian terrorists, are Indonesians. Our local Muslims won't get backlash from it. Because they were brought up accepting the ideology that many parts of their Islam is not permitted in Singapore and not compatible with the culture and the laws in Singapore. From a kid, they are taught what are all the unacceptable Islamic practices that is not compatible with Singapore. And don't forget, this is not exclusive to Islam. All races, we Chinese are also taught what are our traditional practices that are not compatible with Singapore and we are not allowed to practice it too! Especially when we were fresh immigrants from China, alot of undesirables, we were schooled about and expected to drop it. We also get call out on it. Basically I posted once that a Minister describe it as, every race or religious group has to sacrifice something important to them, for everybody to live in harmony. The things that do not fit in, are not allowed!
I don't see Singaporean Muslims as much of a threat, except for a few, who is resentful they can't practice the full Islam which are all under control with our government being on the ball with those. We simply forbid them to practice any radical elements. And Indonesia has always been a cesspool of violent Muslims, including their own government who persecutes and performed genocide on a sect of Muslims who were considered by the government as "Not Muslim enough". So they are from another category. And they aren't educated the same way the Muslims in Singapore are educated about their religion.
I am not worried about our local Muslims at all. I am more worried about Muslims who were educated or their parents were educated in radical Muslim countries migrating to the west. Because the west does not give special Islamic lessons, held by carefully chosen Muslim clerics to unradicalise these muslims. Because the west does not recognise that Islam IS radical. They keep thinking it's just terrorist who deviate from Islam. They are so not getting it. So as long as they think Islam has nothing to do terrorism. Then the problem will never be fixed.
I mean a Muslim child born to Muslim parents in US, will go to a US school and learn everything about US, but his religious education will still be conducted by his parents who were educated in the Radical Islamic ways from a Radical Islamic Nation for example, if his parents were immigrants of an radical Islamic country, like Afghanistan for example. This is how it spreads down generations to generations in the west.
Over here, our Minister simply say, "I don't care what your Quran teaches you. In Singapore, those teachings are not compatible with Singapore. Just drop it! And practice the compatible stuffs!"
