ORIGINAL: WhoreMods Well, there's a lot of debate about how much input he had in the first place besides writing better dialogue than Kirby or Ditko could manage in the 'Sixties, isn't there? (The dialogue thing is not to be sniffed at, though: just look at the flapdoodle Ditko has his characters spout in Blue Beetle and The Question, and Kirby was incapable of writing anybody who talked like a human being, which is why the Fourth World stuff is the his best work. I wouldn't dismiss the gloriously '60s speech in the better Spiderman and Fantastic Four stories as an insignificant contribution, myself.) I think the early Starlord stories were after Roy Thomas had taken over as Marvel's EIC, so Lee wouldn't have had any input on those anyway, though. Granted, Stan Lee is best known for his artwork and his earlier comics. After he (along with Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and many others) became the driving force behind the company's creativity trust in 1961, the company boomed. It was when the popularity of comics crashed in the late 70's he became the sole owner/idea man. In all reality, Stan (and I will be burned at the stake for saying this) is best when working with a group that are just throwing ideas around. He can take something and flesh it out in ways most would not have thought of. In fact, that is the way that most comic book story lines start. In an bull pen with everyone throwing out ideas and someone fleshing out the better ones. The problem today is that many writers in the industry, for better or worse, dont like to work that way. All that being said, I have to ask, What the hell is Nick Fury's secret to long life and good health? Nick Fury was introduced as Sgt. Nick Fury after assuming command of an infantry company in WW2. Aside from a little graying around the temples, and the loss of an eye, he is still as spry as he was when he was a young brash, trooper in France. Now, doing the math, he had just made sargent when Pearl Harbor was bombed, and considering the slow rise in ranks back then, he would have had to be in his late 20's (lets say 28) so he was born in 1913. That makes Nick Fury, commander of SHEILD 103 years old.
