Fair enough. I grew up with a philosophy professor father, and thought experiments were part of my raising, from a very young age (mostly age-appropriate, LOL!).

Not to denigrate your father, I hated philosophy classes with a passion.

While he taught some of the history of philosophy (because he had to), Dad focused more on the logical thinking and ethics side of things.

He said that he taught people how to think, to think better, to think outside their comfort zone, and to think more often.

I don't know all the philosophers, myself, nor do I care. :-P

I'm with you on Psychology.

i am well read....

there are no genuine women on here - save those in fabulous relationships, their forked turns declares you marvel at their poison and you bhold their errant glory

then there is me alone 3 cats and a hot water bottle

Prehistory and time immemorial consume me

incidentally no-one want our planet

Wicked, I disagree with your assertion there are no genuine women on this sight who are single.

I postulate that in truth, they have better taste than to settle for the likes of you or me.

While I do not know your personal quirks, mine constitute a multitude of psychological and behavioral. The Psychological are directly related to PTSD, and the behavioral are probably related to some variant of OCD.

Now as to your statement concerning no one wanting this planet, well gee, considering the damage we have done to it, I am not sure we really want it.

As for cats, while I personally have nothing against the creatures (stupid cat videos are one of my guilty pleasures) and have lived in homes in which human beings were tolerated by the feline overlords, of the 6 dogs presently in my home, all but one tolerate, even enjoy the company of felines.

One, my sister's wolf hybrid, places them firmly in the same category as rabbits, birds, prairie dogs, or basically nonecanine lifeforms, which is the "I aint gonna eat you, but if I catch you in my yard, you're dead."

That classification actually applies to some humans, minus the "you're dead" part. And these are any humans that moves her shade/perching patform (read picnic table) to any part of the yard she does not approve of, or put anything on it that is not for her.

So you are saying that drill sargents are philosophy instructors?

You have no idea how many times I had a DS in my face telling me to think outside the box, outside my comfort zone, use my imagination for something other than thinking of women etc.

Which, when combined with another of their favorite phrases always resulted in me getting my ass chewed out and doing pushups for laughing in formation.

The phrase in question:

"Damn it you morons, you are not paid to think you are paid to follow orders and <insert task or objective here>!"

DC, I used to have a poster sized version of that on my wall, along with the famous "I want to believe" from x files.

I don't remember you in my squad Jeff, but it seems we had the same drill sergeant..............did yours say it in French ? Mine did and would reinforce it with a belt in somebody's teeth. I don't think drill sergeants have changed much since Julius Caesar was a caporal.

Nope, not French, but English and 3 different Vietnamese dialects (He was a Vietnam war vet, Green Beret and LARP trooper) and Samoan. When he was irritated (he swore he never got mad) he would start in one language and by the time he was finished, you had been thoroughly cussed out and chastised in all of them.

Now granted, when you are boot (understand the rule applies in all armies) you NEVER look at your drill instructor and say "in one language please" or "excuse me, translation?" with a grin.

But then, I was a glutton for punishment.

I was also the push up king in our training platoon. Poor guy did not know that my high school football coach had been a career marine (earning a masters in education [math and physical] in the process) who would have the squad doing grass drills, pushups and cross country runs in full pads.

By the time I enlisted, I could do pushups in my sleep. Hell, I actually enjoyed push ups.
