Households could get fracking payments under government plans
Residents affected by fracking could be paid some of the proceeds of shale gas projects, the government has suggested.
A shale wealth fund was unveiled in 2014 to set aside up to 10% of the tax proceeds from fracking to benefit communities in the UK hosting wells.
The PM is now considering paying the money directly to individual households instead of councils and local trusts.

But green campaigners say fracking carries environmental risks and people would not accept "bribes".
The government's plan is one option due to be outlined in a consultation on Monday.
• What is fracking and why is it controversial?
• Fracking go-ahead: What happens next?

It is expected the new fund could deliver as much as £10m to each community that has wells sited.
BBC business correspondent Theo Leggett said the government had not placed a figure on the amount potentially available to individual households, but said it was understood to be up to £10,000 each.

I despair, truly.

Lol, true. Certain middle eastern countries give large sums of money to their citizens every year from the sale of natural resources

When oil was high, Iran subsidised gasoline for the people. In Norway, their oil is (IIRC) 60 % nationalized and it goes to decrease the tax burden on the People and allows for a great infrastructure. In one country, I forgot which, you do not pay an electric bill, the electric company sends you a check.

But of course that is not how it works in the US.

I have several co-irkers and friends who make use of solar panels here in Arizona. A few of them get checks from the electric company. Some companies (ie: SRP) will install the panels free of charge and essentially use your home as a generator on their grid; you don't get paid but there's no out-of-pocket expense either.

There's little technical reason why Arizona couldn't be the Persian Gulf of solar power with our ~299 sunny days per year, it's mostly the government interfering (as usual).

I think that's a German thing. If you have your own generator (I think it's a form of waste incinerator they're trying to encourage people to use), you can use it to put power it produces that you're not sing back into the grid, and that's cut from your bill. There are cases of people getting paid for putting more in than they take out, but I think in most cases it's more a massive cut to your bill than them paying you.

Solar would work here.
Not so much the turbines tho.

Hot, humid and very sunny down here and nary a breath of wind.
Having trouble keeping my fish tank below 29C.

Makes no sense. The more fracking, the more product, the lower price, the less tax revenues. The fracking boom is over. All the whores and bar tenders in North Dakota have moved on, leaving work only for the hazmat suppliers.

Met a guy at Yankee Stadium, yeah right? Was a welder on the pipelines in ND. Could only stay for a couple of months at a time because the air was a killer.

.....yes, but govt. acting in whose interests ? Here's it's SRP otherwise known as the Salt River Project, the utility for the Phoenix area. HERE

Taxing solar energy: HERE

Seems when govt. taxes consumption and consumption goes down even due to competition...new taxes are right around the corner.

Every constituency involved in energy as it seems most everywhere...has their hand out.

If your meter runs backwards it cuts your bill. If your meter runs backwards more than frontwards they owe you. However from what I have gleaned about the situation is that they do not pay you as much as they charge you.

Probably justified because they maintain the lines, you want to get up there in the rain and change a transformer up on a pole in the middle of the night ?

There are alot of technical problems with feeding back to the grid, not the least of which is in the even THEY have an outage, YOUR generator or whatever you have can kill a lineman if it is not designed and configured properly. Actual deaths have led to new regulations and codes about the subject.
