Greta75 -> Cheapest 1 Michelin star Food (8/11/2016 6:28:45 AM)

I just want to brag that, my country has the cheapest 1 Michelin star food in the world, awarded to a chicken noodles stall haha! Where it cost only $2.50 per plate to have a decent filling meal.

Imagine a Restaurant called CUT by the famous Wolfgang Puck got 1 Michelin star too, for his horrendously expensive steak restaurant where it cost a minimum of $200 per steak.

But anyway..., I can't believe it. Chefs in France commit suicide over losing a Michelin Star. I don't know how they give out the stars like nothing in my country ha!

Do I think that chicken noodle stall deserve the Michelin star? Nope! Because all they do is chicken noodles. Nothing else! If they can't excel in that one only thing they do all day and their whole life, I think they are screwed! And these stalls, seriously, don't need more publicity, they are complaining too much business, the top stalls in Singapore are usually already way too crowded and are just well known through word of mouth.

Whole restaurants that have full menus and have to keep changing and improving their menus, deserve the stars more for the crazy amount of work and efforts.

That's because your whole society is no bigger than a decent-sized western town.
Your whole country isn't as big as London and doesn't have as many inhabitants either.

If there's a good outlet, the word is bound to get out.
There isn't any room to get lost in the big picture because your world is no bigger than a postage stamp.

I did a quick google and got 1777 restaurants in London versus 6668 restaurants in Singapore.

We are small, have less people than London, but way more restaurants. Asians just like to eat all day non stop and bonding is usually done over food more than over drinks, including business meetings, usually done over food. It's our hobby, so food industry is very profitable.

Technically, we have more choices for Michelin than London alone. They should have awarded it to all whole restaurant with diverse menus.

Our tiny place, Gordon Ramsey, The Fat Duck (Heston) and Jamie Oliver have all set up several of their restaurants in our tiny place.

And that's exactly my point - it's tiny!!

So word will get out because there's no room to spread it about.
It's all on your doorstep.
It doesn't matter how many - it's the fact it's a tiny place.

ETA: You missed out a zero for the london figure.
In 2015 there were 17,000 restaurants in London.
And according to the same source, that 6,668 figure for Singapore (of which 2,426 were sit down restaurants) was for places to eat, not just restaurants.

So for a true comparison, London has 17,000 restaurants compared to 2.426 in Singapore.

Considering that 1 star is the lowest possible score and 3 stars is the best, what the hell is there to brag about?

Secondly, why does it even matter?

Finally who wants to go to a country where spitting on the sidewalk can result in you being beat with a bamboo cane?

I think you don't understand what 1 michelin star means.

Most restaurants cannot even achieve a star. Chefs has committed suicide for losing their one star. In the culinary world, just to get one star is extremely prestigious revered in Europe.

Look, losing Michelin stars even made Gordon Ramsey cry. Nothing makes Ramsey cry. His a tough guy.

And I keep repeating myself that caning is not a punishment for spitting. A fine is the punishment.

Greta, first, learn sarcasm.

Secondly, any chef that has any bit of emotional stability would understand that the loss of a star could be due to any number of things that are easily corrected, unless it is beyond his power and lies in the management of the establishment.
