That's as maybe, but if you don't worship some non-kosher deity or pantheon, then you're not a pagan. Sorry.

And ever since then, it has been mis-used.

By you, at least...

Paganism

They even named coinage after it.

Really? Tell us about that.

That be awesome!
It would be awesome if there weren't any such groups.
As long as Islam exist, there will always be terrorist groups.

Of course you do. It is just another example of your nature.

Definitely funny. I remembered Mickey Blue Eyes had this scene where Jesus came down from heaven with angels and all of them had machine guns, mass slaughtering killing humans on earth. That was one of the funniest picture I ever seen.

But anyway, Christians keep talking about this end of the world, judgement day crap, it's basically when their God is gonna kill every human again. So it's not so far fetch, Jesus could be terrorist at the end of the world day, when-ever their God deem fit to be that day.

I hear people in the news ask why President Obama won't call them ISIS, instead calling them ISIL. The fact is, ISIS is an anicent Egyptian Goddess. Calling this terrorist group ISIS is an insult to those who honor and respect this ancient Goddess. Imagine if a terrorist group started calling themselves J.E.S.U.S. I wonder how well that would fly in the news. I wonder if the media gets a kick out of this insult to a religious deity? Its ok to insult other religions, just as long as its not Christianity, right? Smells like a double standard to me.

I call them Daesh, because that is the name my Islamic friends and business associates use. For Arabs and Persians, the term Daesh is a very derogatory one for those animals under the black flag.

I do not believe the people who coined ISIS really give a crap about the deity of ancient worship. I know I never even thought about a connection with an obscure religion, but I can be very uncaring about other people's feelings.

"Well, except for the pagans. But those people are fucking nuts and shouldn't be encouraged. "

Are you calling Odinists nuts ? Look it up.

As a quick aside... there are quite a few Pagan folks that follow the Goddess Isis.

If they follow Isis, they ain't Pagans.

Could you show your working on that one? Any (non-Hindu) polytheistic deity is a pagan sort in these days of desert sect monotheism, surely?

Your assumption is wrong.
Not any polytheistic deity is a 'Pagan'.

Pagan~istic perhaps, but not a Pagan.
As a Pagan, I take umbrage at any insinuation that we follow or worship any sort of 'deity'; we don't.
We (loosely) don't like Pagan(ism) being called a 'religion' either.
And we are often (and mistakenly) confused with the Wiccans or Satanists.

Paganism is a way of life, a philosophy if you like, rather than any type of religion.
We don't have any sort of written tome like the Qur'an or the Bible.
We don't have any sort of 'deity' in the normal sense of the meaning of the word.
We don't have anyone or anything that we hold (collectively) in reverence above us as individuals.
We use an elaborate story to explain the seasons to those that follow us.
We have special days (the equinox's) to mark the crossovers from one season to the next.
It's nothing like any sort of religion.

So... anyone that follows Isis as a deity, ain't a Pagan. Simples! [:D]

So then Odinists are not Pagan because they have the Norns.

The dates of Christian holidays were made to appease the Pagans. They were looking for members/converts. Jesus was born in like May or something but they put the holiday near the winter solistace. Easter is when the celebration of a new planting season began. Something like that. And the sabbath changed from Saturday to Sunday also had something to do with it I think.

But I do believe that in the past anything that was not Jewish or Christian was called Pagan. Of course words change meaning over the years, or centuries.

I guess I am a Pagan in a way. No supreme being and if there is we are part of it. No way to know. And going to heaven and meeting your great great Grampa is a bunch of shit. Even if some spark of your being, the part that is greater than the sum of all you parts survives somehow and lives in a different reality, your corporeal life is gone your name, your race, your gender, all gone.

And that is IF, and that is also IF you are aware then.

These religions should be illegal but the Constitution is against that, and I am not one to advocate enforcing one part and not another.

Given the extent to which our beliefs are known to determine our experience, I sometimes wonder if a person's firmly held belief that death is the end might be a determining factor in whether or not it is for them.

Same here. Calling them what they want to be called when a well-known insult is available seems lazy, or maybe even cowardly.

WhoreMods -> RE: Stop calling them ISIS (8/12/2016 8:57:04 AM)

If it was only the liberal media failing to man up and call them deash, then that would be cowardice. As the badass iconoclasts and noble warriors for the truth and proper values at News International also seem unwilling to use any term for a terrorist organisation that its members object to, though, it can't possibly be cowardice, can it?
