quote:
He's a died-in-the-wool conservative, who, as far as I can tell, doesn't pretend to be anything other. A conservative who, at the same time, managed to portray himself - quite successfully - as 'anti-establishment'. Hence, for instance, his description of the Brexit referendum win as a 'victory against the establishment'. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/pa/article-3757485/Brexit-anti-establishment-victory-Nigel-Farage-tells-Trump-supporters.html quote:
If you mean he's anti-EU, then yeah, the majority in this country are. ... Were, to be precise, by a four percentage points, in the Brexit referendum. A few months, a year from now ... that very small majority might not exist in a second referendum, were there to be one. quote:
Don't tell me, you still think we're all stupid and if only we could see the light we'd be pro-EU? Projection. I think some are stupid. Some I think are plain misguided or faulty in their reasoning. I think the same of people who disagree with me on any given subject. Don't you? quote:
I'm not a conservative, and I don't care who is in charge in the United States, and don't give a shite about the whole: "what is bad for the US is bad for the world" nonsense - but, were I have to an interest I would vote for anyone over Bill and Hillary Clinton - and for good reason. I do care who's in charge of the USA because it has a major impact on world affairs. For instance, American foreign policy has had a lot to do with the security situation we face now, particularly in the Middle East. I also care for somewhat altruistic reasons: I don't want to see Americans having a hard time under a crap president. quote:
You think you're a very reasonable person and other people just can't grasp the broad caring, sharing principles of the left. Projection, again. Firstly, though I'm left wing, I don't speak for the Left, I speak for myself. But yes, I do support principles that I think are caring and sharing, if I can. No apology for that. Secondly, as you must know, the Brexit vote wasn't just a right wing vote. There were many on the Left who supported it too. There's been a long tradition of left wingers - Tony Benn among them - who've been against the EU. Even Corbyn has, for most of his career, been highly critical of the EU. I have no great love of the EU myself. I just happen, overall, to think it's a necessary institution in today's world. quote:
Actually, Hillary Clinton is demented. The worst type of career politician, and if you really think that what happens in the US will affect all of us then you should be very wary of Hillary Clinton becoming their president. You might be right that she's not great and I do think there's a lot about her that's career-driven. But I don't think she's as outright ignorant,self-serving and off-her-trolley as Trump. To me he's in a league of his own amongst presidential candidates for that. quote:
In fact, The Don does have my support because I know that what you people say is generally a bad idea. Hell, NG. Throw Godwin's law at me if you like, but that, to me, is *not* sensible. I don't, in truth, think Trump is a fascist, but I do think he *could* go that way as President, with the second qualifier that we'd be looking at a distinctly US type of fascism. I'd have thought that many right wingers - even American ones - see Trump as too far over to be acceptable. As for the 'you people' ... again, there's just me talking, here. I don't think I've ever lumped your views in with every right-winger as though I can treat what you say as just part of some generic right wing view. So why are you doing the reverse?
