I need to throw my 2 cents into this socialized medicine thing if folks don't mind... I am Canadian... 3 years ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure. Dialysis, procedures for installing devices for 2 different types of dialysis, treatments, both hemo and peritoneal dialysis, testing and eventually a transplant. I know dialysis treatments in a centre are about 800 dollars a session, I was doing them 3 days a week for about 6 months. My peritoneal dialysis machine was 21k plus all the supplies for 14 months. I can't even fathom that one. The transplant work up, the surgery, a week stay in a critical unit, and all of the extra hospital stays due to complications. I walked out of the hospital each of the 3 times not owing anything.

It is medical costs approved by private insurance companies - very big difference!
Socialized medicine is paid for from the public purse, not private companies that are only interested in profits.
You might see it as "socialized medicine" but it isn't anything like it.

You spout that you "...get treatments that they determine are authorized".
Social medicine (generally) doesn't make any such distinctions.

Again, socialized medicine do not bill people for treatment - it comes out of the public purse.
