Gene Wilder perhaps best known for his portrayal of the eccentric candy maker Willy Wonka is dead at 83. He also starred in other memorable films such as Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles and Silverstreak.

RIP

An incredibly funny, intelligent, caring, giving man. May he find his peace and be reunited with the two most important ladies in his life.

Given that his marriage with his current wife lasted 25 yrs, I think it's kinda shitty to dismiss it like that.
( I know his marriage to Karen did not diminish his great love for Gilda.)

But RIP Gene: actor, activist and screenwriter/author.

Yes, funny man and he will be missed.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Willy Wonka is Dead (8/30/2016 8:22:14 AM)

Willy wonka (Roald Dahl's) Film I found neither entertaining or remotely funny I just found it creepy. But when you compare Wilder and feeble Depp (2005)

In my lifetime I think 10-20 films are masterpieces and Blazing Saddles (1974)is one of them and it ages well - it is timeless.

My favourite scene from Blazing saddles is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tr9xVmCL0bA

Let us not forget his movies with Richard Pryor (another man taken way too soon.)

Gauge -> RE: Willy Wonka is Dead (9/1/2016 10:47:38 PM)

I wanted to respond to this thread when I could do so without catching myself in a crying fit.

As I post, I am tearing up...

Gene Wilder was someone that could make me laugh by just appearing on screen. He didn't have to do anything, but be in the picture and I would have a good laugh because I knew what was about to happen.

Throughout his film career, I have followed him, and even when he made a film which bombed (Haunted Honeymoon) and I was literally the only one in the theater laughing, I have admired his work.

I lost someone that I admired the day he died. As I hear stories about him that are now just coming out, I cannot help but admire him more... because he was not only an entertainer, but a good person.

I cannot go on typing... I will say that he will be missed greatly.

He was an incredibly talented man. His movies are just classic.

But I will miss him more for another reason. After Gilda Radnor died, Gene Wilder and 3 others close to her started
Gilda's Club. It is a place for people of all ages and diagnosis as well as those close to them to find support as well as
activities to escape for a little while. And it's all free.
