Do you really expect nothing to happen when you are injecting waste water into the ground at extreme pressure?

quote:

A record-tying earthquake in the edge of Oklahoma's key energy-producing areas rattled the Midwest from Illinois to the southwest part of Texas on Saturday, bringing fresh attention to the practice of disposing oil and gas field wastewater deep underground.

The United States Geological Survey said a 5.6 magnitude earthquake happened at 7:02 a.m. Saturday in north-central Oklahoma, on the fringe of an area where regulators had stepped in to limit wastewater disposal. That temblor matches a November 2011 quake in the same region.

Look we all have heard about fracking, the practice of injecting water into the ground to breakup rock so that oil and gas can be pumped out to power everything we cant live without.

Now, since water at high pressure breaks up rock, and the oil companies know that, then care to tell me why they do not expect some reaction when they pump waste water into wells?

"There is no definitive proof that waste water injection is triggering earthquakes."

Okay then, smart guy, explain why the highest recorded, extremely rare quake has been exceeded by quakes at double the magnitude and the fact that quakes have increased to the 1 in 100 years to 40 or fifty a year since the water injection practice started?

For that matter, if water injection is not linked to earth quakes, why not use water injection to get the oil and gas known to be present all along the New Madrid fault system?

Or why not inject water into the rock around the San Andreas?

Okay, lets carry this a bit further.

Injecting waste water into old wells is not directly linked to ground water pollution.

Okay, then explain why the pollutants in the ground water are the same compounds found in the waste water you guys are pumping into the ground?

Okay, another thing I have seen in print.

Fracking does not increase the amount of natural gas suspended in ground water.

Okay, now this is a good one.

The home that my mother grew up in still has the old fashioned pump in the kitchen that brings water up from the well.

Now explain to me why, when I was a kid, I could get a nice glass of water from that pump with no problems and now if there is an open flame nearby, the gas coming off the water catches fire.

It didnt before but since the fracking began in the area, it does now.

Our Government are so thick it is beyond scary. They can plainly see what is happening with Fracking over there with you lot, and yet they've passed it over here anyway. They want to pass it for the other side of my town. A tow that is on top of an Aquifer where most of our drinking water comes from. We have a tidal river that has only just got Salmon running back up it from the last time we poisoned the crap out of it. And if that wasn't bad enough you can walk under ground in the coal mines from one side of the town to the other. It's riddles like a fricking Ant's nest under us from mining.

Obviously we are the perfect place for Fracking. The fact that we also hold some of the countries most fragile nature reserves, and wet lands is a little inconvenient, but not an itch that can not be scratched [:@]

We've had a few minor quakes here. Usually to do with oil drilling in the North Sea. I don't want the theory of 'unrelated' tested.

Oh come on needles, dont you want to experience a quake that caves in a few mine shafts that maybe swallow a row of houses, or a road perhaps?

Think of the adventure you will have with the natural gas concentrated in the water so that have to put out cigs when you get water for your tea pot.

DesFIP -> RE: Earthquake in Oklahoma, or (9/4/2016 6:01:19 PM)

NYS does not permit fracking. Primarily because the NYC Department of Environmental Conservation can set rules for the entirety of the Catskills Park and Hudson Valley regions. And they have the strictest rules in the nation. And, not surprisingly, the best water.

Well I think I have got to the point in life where I'm willing to forego this adventure in favour of seeing my Grandchildren grow up. I mean I'm still willing to get on a horse that would have a go at killing me, and I'll go back to driving with the 14 pointers on the road trying to wipe me out, but I feel I have to draw the line somewhere. I'm just a little boring like that [:D]

Have you watched the documentary GASLAND?

What little news I have heard calls them "waste water disposal wells."

So many things happening at once. Trees, air, water. Why??

privateservant -> RE: Earthquake in Oklahoma, or (9/20/2016 4:32:35 AM)

I never heard anything about it on the news! The multi billionaires do not care what damage they do to the planet or its inhabitants. They are greedy bastards who like mega bucks in the bank and contrive with banker buddies to get their way and buy politicians.

sloguy02246 -> RE: Earthquake in Oklahoma, or (9/20/2016 9:06:27 AM)

I believe it was Don Ohlmeyer (then NBC west coast programming president) who once said:

"Young man, the answer to all your questions is money."

Fracking and waste water injection caused earthquakes have been all over the news for 5 years now.

Where you been? Under a rock?
