That's why I applaud University of Chicago's repudiation of safe spaces and micro-aggression theatre and commitment to academic freedom. Predictably the leftist press has reacted with horror, but it's important for students to engage in rigorous debate without tumblrinas turning every discussion into their own personal statement of victim-hood.

This is stupid on all accounts. Our stereotypical vision of scientists is that they're white, wear glasses and tend to be nerdy. Science as a discipline requires intense focus which tends to favour those people who lack social connections, who think esoteric scientific stuff is cool and whose ability to focus inevitably impacts their eyesight. The fact that someone defies a stereotype is not an insult. And turning it into one is the kind of self-absorbed bullshit which denotes a self-obsessed individual. Anyone getting offended by this shit is a waste of space.
