Got to agree with you just from the point of view of the huge diversity of 80s music, compared to the 50s and 60s especially. You can dislike lots about 80s music. I hated lots of it but most people who don't like 80s music are just missing the sheer variety. There was a huge creative explosion from Metal to Electronic to Dance. The 80s encompassed everything from the decline of disco and prog rock at the beginning of the decade, to the consolidation of hip hop, and the rise of dance and grunge at the end of the decade. Some of the best guitar music, alongside New Wave, Goth, Dance, Acid House, Hip Hop, Soul, R&B, Funk, Country, Indie, aspects of Punk and the Manchester scene. The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Pixies, Jane's Addiction, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Propaganda, De La Soul, New Order, Tori Amos, Orange Juice, Crowded House, The Happy Mondays to name some of the artists and bands who were almost minority interests, compared to acts like Queen, Michael Jackson, Guns N' Roses, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie, Depeche Mode, INXS, Phil Collins, David Bowie and Simple Minds. I don't like everything I have listed, but I still go back to 80s music and find really high quality innovative stuff that I've never heard before. I'm far from stuck in the past and I like music from the fifties up until the present day. What I like best depends on the way the wind is blowing but, more than most decades, the 80s really has something for everyone if you can be bothered to listen.
