September 20, 2016 A Bit of Digital Recycling Dear Ones --- Apologies for being out of touch! I’ve been a bit overwhelmed and a lot exhausted. So I hope you’ll forgive this update for being a recycled Facebook post that you may have seen already. But not all my Gentle Readers orbit Planet Zuckerberg. Completing FMLA paperwork this evening was quite the stroll down medical-memory lane. Since my cancer diagnosis on Jan. 31, 2013, I've been hospitalized 15 times, not counting a pair of Georgetown-to-National-Rehab transfers. The shortest stay was overnight; the longest stretched on for ten weeks. Then there were assorted out-patient adventures: 28 rounds of radiation, 6 rounds of IV chemo, 100 or so hyperbaric "dives," and the recent trio of CyberKnife treatments. Plus the "Do I put this on my resume?" moments of learning to self-administer IV antibiotics, manage oxygen tanks, and empty a rectal drain I couldn't see. And God knows how many wound-dressing changes by visiting nurses. Oh dear Lord, I almost forgot the leeches! Was it Rodgers and Hammerstein who said "What a long, strange trip it's been"? [;)] More soon. Till then, thanks and love! Cheers, DC P.S. I actually do know the quote source. I was just goofing a bit.
