Greta75 -> Affirmative Action for President (9/20/2016 9:35:05 PM)

My country has just done it!

Implemented new rules, where for every 5 elections, IF a minority wasn't voted in, then the following election will only allow minority candidates to be the nominee. Which gives people no choice BUT a minority candidate to be voted in.

While our President does not have the same responsibilities as the US President and doesn't bother with running the country at all. But he is the highest paid political figure. At 3.1mil per annum. And his job is to be like an Ambassador and attend many events and do PR with world leaders.

But I was just thinking if a minority became President on such a year, where the minority-only rule kicks in. Where is the genuine glory in that?

People pick you because they were forced to have no choice.

And I don't even understand how they feel they needed this. Our most beloved President was a minority. An Indian. Till date, he is probably the best President we ever had. I can think of quite a few Indian Ministers if they bother to run for President, they would win hands down without a doubt! Minorities do not need this!

Our current President is Chinese, but he is the best of the worst and we hate him! And for the last election, no minority candidate contested!

I was just thinking, Obama's win is spectacular and worthy because, he ran against majority races and the people picked him. Which is great!

But if he had won under affirmative action, to me, that's just a step back wards and preventing things to move forward in terms of race relations.

"Obama's win is spectacular and worthy"

then you know very little about the reality of politics in this country.

Are you seriously saying Obama win is a voting fraud?

Don't forget, they pick him over Hillary as well, to run against Republican.

He was a dark horse big time. With lack of experience, and youth at that time.

But he got the minorities support, and all the left support and the millennials. And even the centrist people.

Only hardcore Reps dislike him. I think his win was pretty fairly indicative of the population preference.

McCain and Mittens were both just, too traditionally GOP types of people. They were not good choices to run against him.

And even in this election, I bet if Ted/Rubio or Jeb was running against Hillary. All of them would be obliterated by now.

They needed a wild card like Trump.

bondageerone -> RE: Affirmative Action for President (9/21/2016 2:56:24 AM)

greta I have said it before it is a shame Obama is leaving ,
Trump for sure will create havoc,
so for now Clinton is probably the best for them.
terri, in the u.k. xx

Termyn8or -> RE: Affirmative Action for President (9/21/2016 4:45:44 AM)

"so for now Clinton is probably the best for them. "

So now you're doing it too. So you know what's best for us ? Well come over here and ive here a while, get the fucking right to vote here and vote.

you just put yourself in the category of Australians and others who get filtered news but no life experience here whatsoever who think they know better, 'what's best for us'.

Fuck you condescending assholes. Mind you own goddamn business. How about I tell YOU who to vote for ?

So, it doesn't matter who the best candidate is, necessarily. Once every 5 elections, it could be simply about race.

I hope you see that affirmative action is racism, no matter how you package it.

Come on, DS. You know that when a program is designed for minorities, then...by definition...it is not racist.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Affirmative Action for President (9/21/2016 8:48:17 AM)

Affirmative action I find racist - I am not sure what they have in the UK ( I think they have some for some jobs(what about our front line army?)). USA still have affirmative action and its scope is?

I believe in fairness and equality but not at the expense of sensible maths

What constitutes a minority in the third world shithole called singapore?

While our President does not have the same responsibilities as the US President and doesn't bother with running the country at all.

I have shown, on more than one occasion, that you have not the least clue what the president of that third world shithole called singaqpore does.

But he is the highest paid political figure. At 3.1mil per annum.

Which is possible because of the 40%+ tax rate in that thirde world shithole.

And his job is to be like an Ambassador and attend many events and do PR with world leaders.

He appoints the prime minister dumbass, who runs that third world shithole called singapore.

But I was just thinking

It has been shown many times that you do not think.

if a minority became President on such a year, where the minority-only rule kicks in. Where is the genuine glory in that?

What does your glory hole have to do with anything?

People pick you because they were forced to have no choice.

As has been pointed out many times there is no choice in that third world shithole called singapore.

Well, first, I'm no fan of Affirmative Action. Not that sharing that point will make any difference in the reaction, most likely.

However,

rac·ism
ˈrāˌsizəm/
noun
noun: racism

the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
"a program to combat racism"
synonyms: racial discrimination, racialism, racial prejudice, xenophobia, chauvinism, bigotry, casteism
"Aborigines are the main victims of racism in Australia"

Affirmative Action, however short-sighted, is not about one race being superior. It's about evening perceived racial imbalance/injustice perceived to be created by previously judging some as racially superior.

Does it favor minorities? It does. Is it then fair? Arguably not. But racism? It really isn't.

Scream as you might.

Synonyms (of racism) include "racial discrimination," which is exactly what Affirmative Action is.

If you want people to be more accurate, I get it. Affirmative Action isn't, by some definitions, racism, but it is racial discrimination, which, by some definitions, IS racism.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/racism
    quote:

    Full Definition of racism

1: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

    2: racial prejudice or discrimination

(Affirmative Action fits Merriam-Webster's 2nd definition of racism.)

https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/racism:
    quote:

1[mass noun] Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

(The Oxford Dictionary doesn't list racial prejudice or discrimination as a definition of racism.)

I don't know why you're hopped up on this semantic difference, though.

Actually, I don't have any privilege to lose. White privilege is another term thought up by the academic elite...who've never come out of their ivory tower...and accepted all too readily by those eager to embrace another explanation that explains away why some, not all oddly enough (Powell, Rice, Sowell, West, Carson, Clark, etc), never get anywhere.

You are the one who started the pity party about how your white priviledge is being eroded by those upity blacks who just can't get over the past like the imagined evils your tribe suffered.
You have been informed on several occasions how to fake being black "black like me". You clearly lack the balls to do so...whassamater sweetie are you afraid that by mascarading as black you might get hurt?
