The rattle snakes hibernate just like the adder. They find a hole in the ground, usually at the base of a tree, and all sleep together. You can find them, if you want, by the smell. A whole lot of rattle snakes in one hole smells very ammonia like. Much different than a bear den. A bear den is musty smelling. I do recommend a six-shooter for bears that seem to have a disquiet type of attitude. But, your normal bear just out looking for food can be scared off by any human noise. Yelling or banging pots together work fine. I have to laugh, today my gardener said he had a bear in his yard this morning. He was very excited about it. So...like...a bear and a rattle snake all in about four days. Let me ask you Peon, if you come for a visit, are you going to need to pack a six shooter here?

Status: offline 		I saw a couple of adders when I lived in the country in Bucks but we were actually looking for them and they slithered away as fast as they could. They are very timid critters. I am buggered if I even remember why the hell we were looking for the I would have been about eight at the time snd silly as a wheel I guess

To tell you the truth, I'm not even sure what a six-shooter is. Is it just another name for a revolver, or is it a special sort of gun? I just picked up about them from crackly old Westerns when I was a kid. Anyway, from what I've learned - which I freely admit is not much - I think I'd be better off with a bear-spray than any sort of gun.

I heard that the most common occurrence of bites from adders happened with gardeners who stuck their hands too quickly into bushes or thick clumps of grass. The thing to do is just make a lot of noise ... and they'll slither off. As you say, they don't want to get into a fight with humans if they can avoid it.

Interesting.

I don't kill spiders for a similar reason. They eat insects, like lice, fleas etc. that everyone bring in house after they go outside. If they are alive, what are they living on ?

Very few species' of spiders bite people. We are not tasty to them. Even the brown recluse which makes you sick as hell probably only bit because it felt threatened. Stupid fucker gets under your covers and then you roll over or whatever, I am not saying put up with it but it it understandable. They don't want humans like bedbugs or mosquitoes, or ticks and fleas. Most spiders are happy in the basement or attic, they build a nice big web and when one of the insects you brought in on your shoes or clothes wanders there they meet a quite nasty fate.

Really, if I come across a snake out there I just give it its space. What do I have to do that is so important out in the yard ? Like we have some skunks around here, if I see one I just turn the other way, fukit. It will go somewhere pretty soon. The only thing is to make sure they don't get in the garage. We pretty much only leave the doors open when someone is in there, which will repel them. In fact I should probably turn the garage stereo on all the time the door is open to act as a further repellant. Our neighbors killed a couple of skunks recently and it is a shame to have to do that. But you have to. One has a litter and then you got a bunch of them. Sorry, but we can't have that.

Mankind was born to fuck up the environment it looks like. We can't seem to avoid it.

Anyway, many people have their own definition of Man. Some think it is a big dick. Others think it is a good job. Others think it is whatever but I think it is someone who thinks before they act, and keeps a cool head under emergency. I realize that is not gender specific, and really there are Women who are more of a Man than some Men. And I do not mean Lesbians, it has nothing to do with sexual orientation.

I do. Or did. I stopped drinking coffee a long time ago but when I did it was strong. People said "that shit you're making is mud" and I called theirs dishwater.

Like tea, I used to drink tea. I would put like four teabags in a cup, but only steep it for a short time. That is the best flavor. I could never stand tea made from used tea bags.

Also, about the coffee, sometimes I removed the decanter and put my cup under there as soon as it started coming out. That way I could get my nice strong coffee and everyone else could have their dishwater. Actually that worked out OK until I stopped drinking it altogether, and stopped smoking cigarettes. And when I smoked it was not lights. It was two packs a day of Wiston Select which had among the highest tar and nicotine available. And I really smoked them, they did not sit in the ashtray burning away. Like pot, I smoke it until I damnear puke. Then I stop. Like music, I turn it on, I turn it up, shut the fuck up. I do not play background music. When the song is over then we talk.

All or nothing. I ain't wasting my speakers on people who ain't listening. Get the fuck out and I will listen myself. You know, I am capable of handling being by myself.

Maybe that is one of those manly traits, I don't know. That kind of shit is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe that is why that chick at work seems to be sweet on me. I don't want anything anymore, which is why I stay here in the dungeon. I have enough friends, I have enough everything. And the truth is the more people you deal with the more problems you have. I have a very small circle of chosen family. We do not agree on alot of things but so what ? Makes for interesting conversation.

This is exactly how I would describe a manly man too. Just someone really emotionally strong and in control of himself. I get so drawn to that.
