Hello all. I have a technical question for any who can answer.

I am looking for a padlock that can be opened remotely over the internet. A bluetooth one exists. But that is not adequate for my needs. I reckon the lock would need to be wifi capable and get an IP from a router.

So anyone know one?

I don't... but it wouldn't be difficult to do... it could work out rather large though :/

I have a few tech friends who may know if something exists...

The answer seems to be...

No wifi one invented yet...

However a bluetooth one with a cheap android phone locked hidden in the house would work...

Just give whoever you need to open the padlock remote access to the phone via your wifi :)

Use the bluetooth one and require coming close to the computer to lock and unlock. A work around but feasible without having to build your own.

You could also use a combination padlock and have the combination texted... unless it's for your hands. :P

Yep. I see there are wifi controlled mortise locks on the market, but it'd be some engineering feat to turn one of those into a padlock.
