ORIGINAL: thompsonx ORIGINAL: CreativeDominant Cite please on "just a note from your doctor". I get drivers referred to me all the time because they do not have a current CDL Physical Exam Certificate. When did the state atart letting chiropractors, who are not medical doctors, give medical exams? The "note" from my doctor, who is a medical doctor, is called a "dot physical" Since the Feds started requiring Medical Exams for professional drivers. I did my first one quite a few years ago. Then, in order to narrow the field down to health care professionals who actually perform the exam as intended, they instituted certification classes and testing. If you were successful completing that, you became part of the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. Not all M.D.s are a part, nor all P. A.s nor all D.C.s. DOT Medical Exam and Commercial Motor Vehicle Certification About the Exam A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination must be conducted by a licensed "medical examiner" listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. The term includes, but is not limited to, doctors of medicine (MD), doctors of osteopathy (DO), physician assistants (PA), advanced practice nurses (APN), and doctors of chiropractic (DC). Follow this link to find a medical examiner who is certified by the FMCSA to perform DOT physical exams: https://nationalregistry.fmcsa.dot.gov/NRPublicUI/Drivers.seam A DOT physical exam is valid for up to 24 months. The medical examiner may also issue a medical examiner's certificate for less than 24 months when it is desirable to monitor a condition, such as high blood pressure. Recordkeeping If the medical examiner finds that the person he/she examined is physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), the medical examiner will furnish one copy of the results to the person who was examined and complete a Medical Examiner's Certificate.
