I have two spoiled and strictly indoor (except for our third story porch) cats. They are kept inside for their health and safety as well as the continued health and safety of the ecosystem. Domestic cats are considered an exotic species in the wild because their ancestors hail from Africa and Europe, not North America. Tinker -- My 4 year old little sweetheart. I met her when she was a 3 month old stray. She was brought into the vet office I was working at, and no one cared for her (IMO that vet is a money grabbing, uncaring jackass). She was afraid and hissing at everyone. So I braved her noise, picked her up, and cuddled her. We've never been apart since. Her name is derived from the funny hobbling gait she had when I first met her. She moved like a little old man. I suspect someone threw her out of a moving vehicle so that her hips were hurt and her front paw pads scraped up. Both of these injuries healed up over time with care. She is a silver tabby with white toes on all four paws, and a white patch on her chest. Adorable! Diego -- Not yet 2 year old male tabby. We picked him up from a local shelter to be company for Tink. He can be a real pain in the ass when he wants to be, yet he's become a momma's boy at heart. He harrasses Tinker far more than I'd like. I let Pup pick him out, and even though we love him, he can be a trial. Pup says he will defer to my ability to sense good pet personalities from now on. Still, Diego isn't a bad little guy in his own way. We do love him. Talks up a storm. Comes when I call, whistle, or snap my fingers. At least he's stopped skinny-dipping in the toilet. He's more like a dog than a cat sometimes. Rancid breath. Both cats jockey for possession of my legs when it's bedtime. They're both pretty attached to me, but I've always been like that with animals. I couldn't imagine living without cats as members of my household. They are like my little furry kids. Someone said earlier that they'd be heartbroken if someone hurt their pets. So would I -- but I'd probably end up in jail for killing the bastard who did the deed. I'd fight tooth and nail for either of them. zuma
