At present, We have what we lovingly refer to as,
"Los peros negros de muerte" --(keeping in mind, NO one here speaks a lick of Spanish) lol

They are all Miniature Dachshunds under 12 pounds each..that think they are 200 pound Rotties.
[:D]

Franklin, 3 (or Franks and beans for short)
Cuddles, 4 (the original "Black dog of Death to be sure)
Mr. Winston, 5 (our rescue dog that was kept out on snow and ice all winter before we got him)
Miss Brandy was another rescue that we had to put to sleep a few months ago at the age of 15, she was a Norweigan Elkhound. They used to be called the "Black and Tan Menace" until we got Mr. Winston, who is more silver longhair with only a touch of tan on him.
They are totally My babies, and it's probably a good thing that I live in a small house, or I'd have a bunch more. They're like potato chips..you can't have just one! [;)]

What a delightful thread! It's amazing what talking about our pets brings out. I have the lowest number now I have had in years. However, the ones I have tend to make up for the low number.

Two horses, both Arabian.
Major whom I bought at auction 9 years ago. I went to buy a beautiful black two year old and ended up bringing home a 7 year old flea bit gray that I have traveled thousands of miles with. He is a bit slower due to some arthritis, no 3 day trail rides or jumping anymore but when I want a relaxing ride thru the woods he's my man.
Mowglie the 5 year old terror. He is way too smart for his own good, gets into trouble all the time. Torments Maj relentlessly. I got him as a weanling, again at auction. He was sooooo small and even as a two year old looked like a baby. Arabs develope alot more slowly than many other breeds so this is his first "big boy" year and has been a handful. But he is very entertaining and would not intentionally hurt a soul. It's just that he will never be a horse just anyone should ride.
I have a cat......Quigley that was a feral kitten born down in an old shed near the creek. For some reason he decided to be fearless (thru the horse pasture and rubbing against horse feet and inquisitive noses, the three large dogs I had at the time that thought he was a moving chew toy) and moved up to the big house. He has always loved sleeping with the dogs and prolly thinks he is one. He loves riding in the car and thinks the vets office is tres'cool. Weird cat.
I now have two dogs both shelter dogs.......it the only way for me.
Lauren is a rescued german shepherd that was taken from the only home she had known at age 4 1/2 and was like a wild animal. The only human contact she had had was a large loud abusive man that would occasionally walk thru the pen of 40+ dogs yelling and kicking at them. That is where she was born. I have had her for almost 2 years now, she is better but will never be able to be totally calm around strangers, especially men. After I had to have the old golden retriever put down it was just the one dog and a cat hanging out and though they were best of buds the 10 pound cat was not at all into wrestling with the 75 pound dog. In May I adopted the most adorable mixture of german shepherd and chow, Sandy. She is not quite a year old and is a total delight. She charms everyone that meets her, even the neurotic german shepherd.
Other than that there is the usual assortment of fish tanks and a zebra finch.
Occasionally the DNR brings me wildlife rescues to nurse back to health for re-release but they never become pets. The latest was a kestrel, what a beautiful bird. Before that was a whole batch of baby bunnies.......wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much bottle feeding!!

La Tigresse, yeah, it is a fun thread, isn't it?
Pets always seem to bring out the best in people.
I guess that's why they have them at Nursing Homes these days. They say that they're a great stress reducer.
Bubba can be a real bastard sometimes but I love him.
