Actually the Illuminati is rigging the election, using the NWO operatives in the media.

Hilary is actually a clone, the real Hillary Clinton was replaced years ago, with Bill's assistance, but the Bill isnt the real Bill, he is an artificially created life form....

Did I cover all possible conspiracy theories, or did I miss one?

Actually, you forgot the CFR (Council on Foriegn Relations) which recently opened a 'branch office' in Wash., just up from 1600 PA. Ave. so as HRC said...I won't have far to go for [them] to 'tell me what to do.' As for whether it's her or Trump ? They don't give a flying fuck...they will play ball.

Hell, if elections were really rigged, neither BJC or BHO would have been elected.

You're missing the point. This election has seen the press engage in an astonishing level of inaccurate reporting with the aim of influencing the election outcome. That is not the purpose of the fourth estate. The fourth estate is meant to bring truth to the citizens to provide another component of the checks and balances which prevent our democracy from turning into an oligarchy or a plutocracy.

Your thesis on the idealistic purity of the mission of the press would sound great in a freshman college journalism course but it fails the test of history. The earliest broadsheets had party affiliations. President Jackson's wife and Abe Lincoln were under vicious press attack, she as an adulteress and A.L. as a monkey and incompetent and of course tyrant all in one. William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer dished out fiction and propaganda that drove the nation into the Spanish-American War. And let’s not even get started on the embedding of the press within our military units in Iraq. The press almost always engages in partisanship. The internet is press partisanship on steroids.

We do have libel laws but public figures have little expectation of privacy and they are required to prove malicious intent in court.

It has failed. The cap-in-hand whoring out of the media to corporate interests is a stain upon American journalism - there are precious few journalists left (and bloggers like those amateurs at Gawker are NOT journalists).

American journalism was already pretty soggy. Much of the problem you rightly cite is due to corporate ownership of our news outlets. The owner corporations have economized by cutting back financing for investigative reporting.

We are obliged to find independent sources. But mostly I think people read print and watch TV commentary that reinforces their preconceived positions anyway. Voters seek confirmation of their emotionally determined opinions.

Believing in the invisible hand of the free market to solve all your problems is nutty religious extremism. Aynd Rand was a fucking cunt and so are the people who support her whacky fucking ideology.

Truth can be judged by fact checking and holding news organisations accountable for the claims they make. It requires vigilance and a commitment to accuracy rather than a slavish hunger for clicks.

“holding accountable” . . . what does that mean? Will we have a Ministry of Truth? And what will the sanctions be? Will journalists be fined? Jailed? Burned at the stake? Already, media people are claiming they are being intimidated and threatened at Trump rallies.

I fear you have bought into one of Trump’s false distractions.

No. Sanders would have undermined their power base as he wanted to get money out of politics. They might be leftists but they're still basically whores to corporations or billionaires. Most of the left wants capitalism with identity politics. It's only the extreme socialist left who don't give a shit about money and those fuckers were anti-Sanders because he wasn't socialist enough for them.

Intentionally? Any examples?
I can give you a great one: Go check the Washington Post's output over the past year and note the Bernie Bro narrative they constructed. The Bernie Bro thing was a complete myth but it sure tallied up at the Post. Monitor its output and the Washington Post put up as many as a dozen anti-Sanders stories a day, many of which were complete and utter fiction.

Much of the inaccuracy is just bald-faced lying. Assertion of motives which cannot possibly be known, claims which are unsupported, character assassination as journalism.

The 16 negative stories in 16 hours thing is probably the most telling example: http://www.commondreams.org/views/2016/03/08/washington-post-ran-16-negative-stories-bernie-sanders-16-hours

Put simply, the Post is what happens when you let billionaires buy media organs. Jeff Bezos knows full well that Bernie Sanders is a threat to his wealth and has instructed his people accordingly. Not that they really need much encouragement - they're already compromised by their identity politics.

The opinion-based slant of pretty much every news organisation is distressing. I almost never see impartial journalism any more. You can spot it when it happens because it's absent value judgements, emotive language and imputation of motives. Amongst the current crop of utter journalistic failure and corruption it shines like a beacon.

Trump is utterly inappropriate as a Presidential candidate but the left-wing media's approach to dealing with him is utterly devoid of integrity. Rape allegations which mysteriously show up in a Presidential campaign are suspicious as fuck. Instead of reporting on them as allegations, the elevation from allegation to fact has occurred at a pace which is not only unseemly, it's positively sinister. The media has built a narrative that allegations are implicitly true. You might not care when it's aimed at Trump, but what about when it's not. What about when it's aimed at some poor fucker who has zero ability to defend themselves? Does your hatred of straight males extend to the point where you want to see them convicted in the court of public opinion regardless of whether or not they're innocent?

Don't be stupid. There's a difference between an understanding of the role of the press in a constitutional sense and the degree to which the press fulfills that role. Your approach is to insist that the press has always been partisan so we should simply accept it as it is. My approach is to point out that consolidation of fourth estate power in the hands of the few, combined with the rigid censorship codes of the identity-politics-ridden left and the 1964 Supreme Court decision in New York Times vs Sullivan creates a dangerous cocktail of unrestrained media power, irresponsibility, orthodoxy of thought and corruption. If you're too stupid to see the danger that represents to liberty in this country, that's entirely your own problem.

quote:

American journalism was already pretty soggy. Much of the problem you rightly cite is due to corporate ownership of our news outlets. The owner corporations have economized by cutting back financing for investigative reporting.
No, it's also a product of political orthodoxy. The Left in particular is focused upon telling everyone how to think, with all the Orwellian undertones that implies.

quote:

We are obliged to find independent sources. But mostly I think people read print and watch TV commentary that reinforces their preconceived positions anyway. Voters seek confirmation of their emotionally determined opinions.
They do, but implying the Press doesn't influence opinion is idiocy.

quote:

Truth can be judged by fact checking and holding news organisations accountable for the claims they make. It requires vigilance and a commitment to accuracy rather than a slavish hunger for clicks.

quote:

“holding accountable” . . . what does that mean?
If you print it, you'd better be able to prove it - and the constitutional protections which shield people from their government should also shield them from a rampant fourth estate.

quote:

Will we have a Ministry of Truth?
Insisting on Press accountability is hardly Orwellian.

quote:

And what will the sanctions be? Will journalists be fined? Jailed? Burned at the stake?
No, the publishers will.

quote:

Already, media people are claiming they are being intimidated and threatened at Trump rallies.
Which is ironic considering the degree to which the media bullies and intimidates anyone without the resources to sue them into oblivion. The destruction of Gawker was one of the most positive blows for Press accountability in the last 30 years - and there should be more of it.

I fear you have bought into one of Trump’s false distractions.

If it weren't so ignorant it would be ironic that you use Sullivan to support your notion of censorship when that is precisely what the Decision overcame. I take the decision in Sullivan to be reasonable especially given the circumstances of the times.

It is obvious to anyone with even a smidgen of mental clarity that all types of opinions are being aired in this election. To cry monopoly of thought as you do falls right into Trump's rhetoric for the weak of mind. Oh wait . . there you are.

Journalistic integrity? I never put those two words together. I just believe there is enough variety of opinion available to satisfy the need and I think the need is slim because most people vote from tribal emotion.

Awareness is trying to use Hogan v Gawker as a precedent for censorship by litigation. But, at least to the sex tapes, Hogan had an expectation of privacy. I don't know the details about the exposure of his racial slurs.

If I mirrored your thesis, you obviously wrote a genius paper. [:D]

Even Saturday Night Live, it seems, has joined the vast left-wing conspiracy.

Saturday night, SNL opened with a mocking reenactment of the second presidential debate. The parody included the moderators taking shots, a kung fu style greeting between Trump and Hillary Clinton and an ode to town hall questioner -- and 15-minute celebrity -- Ken Bone.

But the biggest laughs came from Alec Baldwin's portrayal of a stalking, lewd, deceptive Trump. The live SNL audience was cracking up, but apparently the real Trump wasn't.

In a tweet, the Republican nominee said that Baldwin's portrayal "stinks." He also called on NBC to end its "boring and unfunny" show. And he said that SNL was trying to rig the election against him.

* * *

Trump has been increasingly targeting the media as the culprit of his poor polling numbers. He has repeated the refrain of a "rigged" election since the virtually tied race started to slip away from him following the first debate on September 26. Since then, Clinton has led most polls by a comfortable margin.
