Rubio: I Won't Talk About WikiLeaks, and Neither Should Donald Trump

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/exclusive-rubio-talk-wikileaks-donald-trump/story?id=42895586

Sen. Marco Rubio tells ABC News that Republicans are making a mistake by jumping on allegedly hacked emails released by WikiLeaks to criticize Hillary Clinton. In fact, he says he won’t talk about the hacked emails at all.

Marco Rubio Says He'll Serve Full Term in Senate if Re-Elected
Donald Trump Slams Clinton for WikiLeaks Emails
"As our intelligence agencies have said, these leaks are an effort by a foreign government to interfere with our electoral process, and I will not indulge it,” Rubio tells ABC News. "Further, I want to warn my fellow Republicans who may want to capitalize politically on these leaks: Today it is the Democrats. Tomorrow it could be us."

Rubio's stand puts him directly at odds with Donald Trump and other Republicans, who have been relentlessly hammering Clinton and her campaign over the content of the hacked emails.

"WikiLeaks has provided things that are unbelievable," he said at a rally in Colorado on Tuesday, accusing the media of ignoring the leaks. "The media, you have to remember, is an extension of the Hillary Clinton campaign. It's an extension. And without that, she would be nowhere."

While Trump regularly slams the news media for not paying enough attention to the stolen emails, Rubio argues that making an issue out of the WikiLeaks disclosures plays into the hands of the Russian government.

"I will not discuss any issue that has become public solely on the basis of WikiLeaks," Rubio tells ABC news.

Earlier this month, the United States government publicly accused Russia for a series of hacks and email leaks that targeted U.S. political institutions — intrusions that top officials said were authorized at the highest levels of the Russian government.

For his part, Trump not only talked about the hacked emails in the first two debates but also raised questions about about whether Russia was really behind the hacking.

ABC News has not verified the authenticity of the alleged emails released by WikiLeaks. The Clinton campaign won't confirm or deny the veracity of the posted messages and has blamed Russia for the email hacks. The FBI says it is investigating.

"I am a politician. You have elected me to explain stuff, in terms of phatic discourse that will reassure the stupid, rather than providing illumination, and I ain't touching that with a bargepole."
'Kinell. I knew he was a lying cunt and an evasive cunt, but I had no idea he was that stupid a cunt as well.

Not a popular stance, he is taking a real risk in taking this stance. Honest, in that he says as it could be them next, he is admitting that there are things Republicans wouldn't want to come to light either. No one wants to acknowledge that, even if everyone is thinking it. No person wants their private stuff gone through, and no company or organization wants their 'inner-workings' revealed-everyone on this earth has something to hide. What is being released about the dems would be crushing if it wasn't being overshadowed by Trump's own antics and the media.

Rubio could set a good precedent here, putting nation above party. Some are doing that this election, more than I have ever seen, but sadly not enough.

Yet he already knew that Russia was behind it, as he had been briefed so in official intelligence briefings.

It's quite possible his PR consultant (Whose another of Putin's many bitches) might have mentioned that, perhaps?

Rubio is a sleeze ball.

I would like wiki leak to target Republicans too!

Someone should actually expose the behinds of all politicians!

People need the truth.

Who is rubio..even I know the Russians did that one....they do it because the sanctions bite deep..if anyone ever wondered - not that most Americans will be aware.

I still wonder who/why frighty hair mans predatory video surfaced after 11 years. Not that it surprised me - what he is like I mean, but whom inside job I suspect myself.

He was so busy campaigning that he forgot to pay the people who were supposed to be hiding the evidence.

Wikileaks:

Led and spearheaded by a man hiding out in the Ecuadorian embassy in London for the last 4 years to avoid extradition to Sweden to assess his involvement in a sex crime case (rape).

You'd think the Republicans would like him more, given that: they seem to be pro sex criminals these days.

Before you go chucking the "rape" word around perhaps you might find out exactly his "crime" consists of in sweden.

Given that the ecuadorian president cut off assange's internet, I wonder if what is coming down the line next. and where it will be coming from.

tweakabelle -> RE: Rubio: I Won't Talk About WikiLeaks, (10/20/2016 6:25:36 AM)

I wouldn't be in a hurry to ascribe good or noble intentions to Rubio. He's in the middle of a campaign for re-election and needs to differentiate himself from Trump to succeed. Like many Republican candidates he doesn't want to go down with the Trump ship when it finally sinks on Nov 8.

It might be useful to bear in mind that there is going to be a lot of jockeying for position and status among those GOP Congresspeople and Senators who survive down-ticket. There will be a power vacuum at the top of the GOP as Trump is summarily disowned for having orchestrated a massive defeat and disaster for the GOP. It is not clear at this stage which faction or personality will succeed in taking over what remains of the GOP post-Nov 8. But it won't hurt those trying to fill that vacuum to put as much distance as they can between themselves and The Mop.

DesideriScuri -> RE: Rubio: I Won't Talk About WikiLeaks, (10/20/2016 6:30:01 AM)

So, there are a couple things at play here. Yes, it's being shown that in email conversations, Hillary and staff are being shown to not live up to their public personae. You don't say?!? It should be accepted that pretty much all politicians would be found guilty of the same.

Is it good to have true motivations and beliefs revealed? Yes, it is, imo.

It would be great if we knew the true motivations and beliefs of all candidates.

Now, here's another side of this story...

The GOP (except Rubio, it seems) is exalting in the trove of information being put out from the hacked ema-.... wait.... what? Someone hacked into email server(s) and is now exposing that information? Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't hacking email server(s), um, illegal? And, that would apply regardless of whose email server(s) was hacked, wouldn't it?

I don't know how much of this stuff would be available via FOIA requests, but if people had started that a year ago, I'm willing to bet the heavily redacted emails still wouldn't have been released, meaning they'd have no chance of having an impact on this election.

It's truly a messed up situation. Hillary isn't as honest and upright as she wants voters to think. Her opponent and his supporters are enjoying the fruits of illegal actions. You won't get into too much trouble (if any) if you're caught with stolen merchandise, as long as it can't be shown you knew it was stolen, or should have known it was stolen, but if you do know it was stolen, you'll face much stiffer consequences. In this situation, those enjoying the email revelations know it is being released as a result of an illegal action.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Rubio: I Won't Talk About WikiLeaks, (10/20/2016 6:35:27 AM)

I wanted to post here because I am very conflicted on this issue.

First: To sloguy's point: IF Julian Assange is guilty of what he is accused of, he's scum. he deserves the slowest death possible. Fin.

Assange has contended that these charges are politically motivated due to his involvement in past leaks. In fact, he's said that the reason so much of this information is aimed at Hillary is because he blames her for the false (according to him) accusations which have forced him into exile.

Now, to Wikileaks, itself:

I was under the impression since Wikileaks first came to public knowledge that they weren't involved in actual hacking. The way I heard it was Wikileaks was a conduit for whistle blowers. Obviously, no one has come up with any proof that they're involved in hacking. They do release obviously hacked material.

Let's give them the benefit of the doubt, for a moment. Let's call them a "media outlet" or "Journalists", collectively.

If a "source" (whistle-blower) comes to a journalist with any kind of evidence, the journalist has an obligation to disseminate it. They cannot divulge government secrets. Certainly, they can let people know what Podesta and his Brown Shirts think about the American people, when no one's watching.

What a shame that it takes something like this to find out what a politician's true position on an issue is.

IF Wikileaks is involved of the actual hacking of this information, we have laws that are already in place to handle that and they should be used to their fullest extent.

Did this info come from "Russian hackers"? Maybe, but doesn't that underline how easy it would have been to hack into a bathroom server? Let's not talk about that because it would throw shade on Hillary's bullshit.

He can contend his ass off, he is a lying piece of shit, obviously, Sweden has no dog in political fights and never has. They have no ulterior motive.

Rumour* has it that the embassy staff have spent three years getting steadily more pissed off with Assange's conduct, and would be very happy to hand him over to the Swedes and/or the yanks if they could contrive a way to do so that won't reflect badly on them.

*(In this case, 'rumour" = "a few stories in private Eye for which no sources have been given, News International style)

MrRodgers -> RE: Rubio: I Won't Talk About WikiLeaks, (10/20/2016 7:45:06 AM)

Rubio doesn't want to be the next one hacked only to read all about his private shit on Wiki.

I kinda like how this puts all of these liars and confidence people on notice. Would love to see Powell's and Rice's emails hacked too.

No, he's hiding out to prevent himself from being kidnapped by the US government. Let's not let smears get in the way of actual facts.
