jlf1961 -> The age verification scam.... (10/19/2016 7:45:10 PM)

In the days of social media, face book and google, I find it funny as hell that people still use these 'verification' sites even after so many have been in the news for everything from unauthorized credit card charges to worse.

What makes it funnier is that my personal email has my name in the sig line (cant find a way to remove it, since it is linked to my ISP) and with that information it is very easy to verify age, location and just about everything except a criminal back ground check and credit history.

Now granted, I was a standard issue grunt, therefore as any officer will tell you, not one of the brightest creatures on the planet, but I am bright enough to smell a scam, especially linked to craigslist (the local police have used it to great success in busting the local prostitutes and other scam artists.)

However, if anyone does not already know, there is a 'verification' site that does not ask for a credit card, asking only for your personal home and cell phone number.

I advise against giving these, since the operators of the site have used that information to phish phone accounts (as a local BDSM community member found out the hard way.)

The truth be told, if someone really wants to verify your identity, then they should be willing to pay the small fee to run an online background check on you. Many sites offer an as needed service for less than 10 dollars, and will give not only proof of age and identity, but criminal record back ground and credit score (at least three of these services are more accurate than the database that is used for gun purchase back ground checks.)

Anyway, my warped sense of humor does give me pleasure to watch the extremes that some of these people will go through to get one to use the site they recommend and submit the information.

Of course, to be honest, and being the cynic that I am, I would not take the word of God over the internet (hard pressed to believe the burning bush thing with the current state of technology) as well, and considering that I own a pair of the projection speakers (these are a blast, you can say something and watch from a distance as people try to figure out who is speaking and where they are) the disembodied voice of god can be duplicated now.

...Maybe I'm just having a brain cramp. What is a verification site? To verify if someone else is who they say they are? (Duh. Just meet them in Hawaii. Easy peasy.)

It is easy to verify oneself....i would like to see that mandatory everywhere and yet what less than 1/50 000 have done so on here. behold their maths

And how would you go about that WD?
Something that works for everyone.

Short of showing up, in person, to the adjudicators of verification, I'm not aware of anything that is even remotely close to approaching 100%.

I verify that I am who I say I think I am.... and I am 100% unanimous in that. :)

If I were going to get someone else to be in my pictures, I'd sure-as-shit find someone better looking than the current schlub I have up there.
