Like a good neighbor, Canada's there. [:)]

Our ever-friendly neighbors to the north have watched from afar a U.S. election cycle that has broken all norms for civility. It’s created tremendous stress and surfaced deep tensions within our society. For many, it’s been disheartening and demoralizing to watch. But Canadians are here to offer a sympathetic message to lift Americans’ spirits.

Riffing off Donald Trump’s slogan, the Garden, a creative agency in Toronto, launched a campaign called “Let’s Tell America It’s Great.” It encouraged Canadians to send videos of themselves telling America all the reasons it’s already great.

“As their closest friends and neighbors, we thought it was important for us to do something to cut through the negativity and help remind them that no matter how bad things might seem, there are a lot of reasons to believe that America is still pretty great,” the Garden wrote in a Medium post titled, “A Friend in Need.”

Just because you hate amerika does not mean that everyone does.
Why is it that the poorest amerikans (those whom one would think would be most interested in trumps "make amerika great again slogan,) dont support him?

Or has spent enough time on one to know it's not the sole window on reality.

It takes brains to be poor. I have been poor at times. You have to think things through.

Trump talks a decent game with this make America great shit but we know he cannot do it. He could be just saying that or he might think he can do it, but no President can.

Remember the story about the monkeys and the banana hung up with a ladder going to it but it was electrified ? They replaced some of the monkeys and they ones that were already there told the new ones not to climb the ladder. Then they changed the old monkeys out and put in some new ones and the previously new monkeys told the new new monkeys not to climb the ladder, not even knowing why. The only way to stop the cycle is to replace all the monkeys at the same time.

Well, replacing even half of the house and senate as well as the President might not work. It would be nice just to replace all 535 of them at the same time and not let lobbyists anywhere near them. then you might get something done. Rid of NAFTA, anyone's MFN status and burn the TPP. Slap tariffs on anything we can possibly make here. Fuck free trade. Fair trade, which does not allow exploitation of dissimilar standards and costs of living.

Everyone thinks the Chinese are living in grass huts and all they eat is rice. That is a bunch of bullshit. They got meat, nice apartments and cars with AC. The difference is their rent might be $10 a month. A new car sells for alot less there, of course they do build their own. They just don't pay people $50 an hour to sweep the floor.

America great again ? What does that mean ? Does it mean paying cash for a new car rather than putting the gasoline for it on a credit card ? Does it mean not allowing and encouraging banks to create a housing bubble that lost alot of people alot of money ? Does it mean not allowing banks to blacklist you if you refuse to pay $350 for a $3 overdraft that they should have simply declined to pay ? You know due to federal regulations you can get fucked on a cashier's check now because the funds must be made available in a certain time which the banks now purposely drag their feet on paying, or not paying. Then you get this notice in the mail that this check you cashed is no good and you got 24 hours to get down here with the cash or pay $25 every three business days. And you get paid by direct deposit, in two weeks.

And banks support all regulations upon them, so do car manufacturers, so do drug companies. If not, lobbyists would have absolutely prevented them from passing. The only two people in congress I can recall who did not take the money were Ron Paul and James Trafficant.

No President can make this country great again. He can maybe slow the fall to the point where it doesn't hurt as much but being great again requires things we simply no longer have. Like if you brought back industry, these kids don't even know how to read a ruler. I learned how to read a micrometer at like ten. Who the hell wants to hire them ? And this is not new.

Ever take an aptitude test for a job ? I have. Some companies don't trust diplomas anymore, and that was in the 1980s but was a technical field. Now, the old engineers want the new engineers to work as interns before deciding to pay them because so many are incompetent. So we can't even design shit anymore. Well some big companies can but they have to go headhunting and get a pool from which to select.

I say Canada is great. Except for the gun laws I think it is a pretty good place to live that has avoided most of the problems of the US. Less people is a good thing. Apparently they have enough industry to get by, along with universal healthcare ad a few other things, like a nice infrastructure.

Except for rapist refugees they are picky about who can immigrate. I can't until 2020 because I had a DUI in 2010. They'll see though when due to international agreements their assholes in government entered that they have to take some. Then they will wish they hadn't given up their guns.

They are still a bit too liberal for me, but the people there seem to like it there so who am I to say ? I correspond with a couple of Australians who think they know what is best for the US. Give up the guns and vote for Clinton. I'd like to go there and SHOW them why you need a gun. But then when they get their fill of refugees they will realize it anyway.

America's not bad.

The difference in vernacular is something Kalliko's had to get used to. If she asks me how my day has gone, I usually reply with "not bad" or "yeah, alright".

Americans - who seem to grow up being fed a diet of hyper-enthusiasm - tend perceive this in a negative light. It's not, it's just that Australians tend to be laconic and somewhat understated. (Except in Sydney, where they have two heads).

We seriously considering changing our wedding vows from "I do" to "Yeah, alright" - but Kalliko's family was there and I figured it might come across as a tad flippant.

Well, its easy for them to say, isnt it? they don't live here.. I knew the US wouldn't be a bowl of cherries but it is way worse than I ever anticipated.. my gawd, the BS people have to go thru here.. if it takes 1 page to apply for something in Canada, its 3-4 pages of BS crap here, then you might find out.. opps, you can't do that cuz of some stupid gotcha rule.. The waste of taxpayer money here is incredible, corruption at every level of govt, everyone has their greedy hand out, people vote for the same party their daddy and his daddy before him voted for (no matter how bad the polititcan).. each state has different laws, different fees, charges, taxes.. 2/3rds of Americans live within the 100 mile border where Border Control agents can ask to see your papers, its a police state and you are the enemy (especially if you look Hispanic).. the anti-immigrant movement & govt immigration laws/rules hinder immigrant entrepreneurs from starting businesses and creating jobs for Americans.. The Rs put forward legislation for the immigrant Start-up Visa, not once, not twice, but three times and the Ds werent interested in creating jobs for Americans..
Heaven help ya if you are falsely arrested in some back-water state.. not to mention the whole racial tension thing (& cops shooting black people in the back), strip searching/cavity searches at the side of a freeway, etc, the expensive pointless war on drugs, prisons for profit, etc.. The problems in this country wont be fixed by Trump or Clinton (they & the political system are a huge part of the problem).. and sending feel good vids that promote the lie wont help any either.. No, this country isnt great, but it could be a lot better than it is.. at this point in time, I dont see anything on the horizon changing to make it better tho.. jmo, of course..

Federal border agents are stopping, interrogating, and searching Americans on an everyday basis with absolutely no suspicion of wrongdoing, and often in ways that our Constitution does not permit.

All that and we still have folks who think it would be a grand idea to turn our health care system over to those same idiots you claim are so inept. But hey if you hate it so much, why are you still here? While I am sure you have to go through a shitload of paperwork to come here, it should be fairly straight forward to leave.

Or perhaps, like me, they have met enough Canadians in real life to know a handful of people on a chat board don't represent anything except themselves.

And from my experiences I am not a bit surprised to see this message from Canada, that's just how they roll.

Thanks for sharing it DC

America is a wreck, always has, been always will be. Like England ;) - they are not quite as bad but they are getting there.

A region in Belgium ( a springboard for nazis - reference will escape all) just bested Canada today - the EU is a fuking marvel

You seem to have a pretty short memory. During the iran hostage situation it was canada who gave some of our embasy staff sanctury. Or were you thinking "what have they done for us lately?"

Baldrick -> RE: Canadians: Tell America It's Great (10/23/2016 9:50:34 AM)

What about the little city of Gander Newfoundland who had the population almost double in the wake of 9/11 when they took in the second most aircraft coming across the Atlantic... a town of 10,000 or less took in 6000 strangers and treated them like family

Termyn8or -> RE: Canadians: Tell America It's Great (10/23/2016 10:47:35 AM)

Never heard of them. That is kinda what I said. But for one, where were the refugees from ? People who called off work on 9/11/01 ? (and I think they were told to because a hell of alot more than 3,000 worked there)

Where did they come from ? If they came from NYC I don't understand, with no job they got evicted from their apartment or what ? They could have moved to many places in the US.

How in the hell did the attack on the WTC create refugees ? please clarify this.

T^T

Baldrick -> RE: Canadians: Tell America It's Great (10/23/2016 11:11:36 AM)

What refugees? Where were all the aircraft that were coming across the Atlantic going to go when the US closed their airspace? Let all those people who had no idea what was going on crash into the ocean?
