I believe that this light sentence was more due to connections and good lawyers than simple gender. Believe me I know the difference that can make.
Alaska is a bit different of a place. They are just barely in the union really. There are probably no feds up there so she was busted by locals. The judge may have been one of her customers.
Plus, what kind of child porn. A group of chosen got busted selling snuff videos in which very small children were raped and killed. Nobody ever got word of what their sentences were, but I bet they weren't executed as they should have been. They were connected. That is one thing, having pictures of a 17 year old is another thing. So, what kind of porn are we talking here ?
I bet she is connected. And I bet the "porn" wasn't all that bad. How do you define porn ? Simply pictures ? My Uncle had DVDs made out of film from my Grandfather's 8mm movie camera, and on it somewhere is a picture of my Father running around in the yard butt naked. Little fucker got away apparently at bath time or whatever. He sent it through the mail. Is that distributing kiddie porn ?
So I played devil's advocate. If it really is kiddie porn it sucks, mainly because someone else may have gotten decades inn the slammer. But we will never see that porn to judge for ourselves. Which brings us to another thing.
If they bust you for kiddie porn they have to view it. Viewing it is illegal. They would have to show the jury or at least the judge so then the cops are distributing it. Who is to say they are not saving a copy figuring they are pretty much immune to the law ?
They probably made it a point to convict her in Alaska so that her sentencing would not come under federal guidelines. If the feds got the case she would have a really bad time. Now convicted, the feds cannot try her because that would be double jeopardy. She willl probably still have to register as a sex offender and ight not be able to live within X yards of a school or whatever, I am not sure of Alaska law.
They do have a bit different bunch of laws about DUI, I know that. You get a DUI there from what I hear they don't necessarily take away your right to drive, they take away your right to drink. I'm told they issue you a different license and it is illegal for you to posses or consume alcohol or be in any place where they serve it even. this is probably because of the climate and not driving is just too much of a hardship, you could starve. They might consider that cruel and unusual punishment.
At least that's what I heard.
Anyway, what about her Grandfather who abused her ? Was she prepubescent ? If so she is kinda fucked in the head. I still want to know what kind of porn. Also note that distributing the porn was not like she had a fucking eBay site selling it. The distribution charge stems from the fact that she used P2P to get it ad therefore it is usually shared. If you use P2P folks, get most of that shit out of your shared directory. When I used it for music, once I knew how it works, I only left the rarest and hardest to get shit in there.
But RM also overlooked the fact, even though I am sure he has no love for Muslims, the fact that a judge in the UK actually let a rapist off with no jail because he had been taught that Women are chattel. That you can just grab one. After all if you rape a broad in some of those countries she is more likely to go to jail than you if she reports it. Remember Dubai ?
I guess RM has his place here, to point out these things. I wish he had better material though. We simply lack the details to make our own judgement on this particular issue and due to legal ad maybe decency constraints we are never going to get those details. To make a judgement we would have to see the porn and it is illegal for them to give it to us. And it probably should be because the identity of the victims should probably not be publicised. One thing a victim does not need is pity, that only perpetuates the victimhood. They have to get over it.
