ORIGINAL: Greta75 And I feel like the phrase of "Happy Wife equals Happy Husband", comes from us. It's kinda like having an iron-fisted Empress Dowager and those who sworn to protect and obey her are still extremely strong and masculine men and great warriors. Yes yes yes, and HELL YES. This is exactly what I witnessed growing up in Eastern cultures. Every Oriental is customarily obsessed with saving face, and just about every Asian knows the rules of the game, so no surprises there in anticipating passive-aggressive behavior. Nobody is actually getting manipulated because it is understood collectively that this is how the delicate fabric of civilized society stays intact (instead of turning into tattered shreds torn apart by wild beasts). This is why I see an Asian woman's outward submissiveness as her public mask-like persona. I identified as Western, so this used to be a burr under my saddle. It still is. However, once she comes into her own and the fullness of her feminine power, she is a Dragon Lady at home. There is the imperial symbolism of the Dragon and the Phoenix. A true Dragon Lady inspires the courage and active male principle (yang) energy of her male entourage. She possesses the regenerative, receptive (yin) merging principle of the Phoenix which makes champions out of her men. In Occidental culture, this is represented by the chivalric knight (heroic bodyguard/champion) who protects and upholds his Queen and her honor, at no matter what cost or noble self-sacrifice, who does whatever must be done to win her favor and stay in her good graces with his unwavering loyalty and devotion.
