They make a scat mat for cats & dogs. It is an electrified mat that discourages animals from walking on it. Depending on where your cage is kept you may need more than one.

That sound perfect!!! Thank you. I'll talk it over with Gary but I think this mat might be just what I am looking for.

Revise that number. Just got 14 new chicks and 5 turkeys.

You can also try Duct tape.

Get a piece of cardboard
Get some double sided tape and tape one side of the cardboard
Then take duct tape and tape the smooth side to the cardboard via the doublesided tape
Now the sitcky part should be exposed
Lay the cardboard infront of the cage
No cats I have run into like the stickiness of duct tape

UPDATE

I finally gave up and ordered the scatmat last week. Got it yesterday. Put the mat in front of the bird cage. I have 2 cats. According to the information on the mat's controller it's been set off 2 times. I did see the one cat jump on, and quickly jump off the mat. Apparently she doesn't want to try that again. The other one must have given it a try when I wasn't watching.

I zapped myself with the mat to see what it would feel like. It's a small jolt. It doesn't hurt. It's just enough to startle the cats and make them think twice.

I have chicks, as in baby chickens coming in a a month. I had to figure out a way to keep the cats from harming the chicks. The cats never bother the adult chickens. My plan is to take my small coop/run, cover 3 sides in cardboard. The front open side will have a scatmat. The chicks will be safe and get enough light.

A special thank you to DrStrange. Thank you for pointing me in a direction that is working very well. I'm happy. The birds are happy. The cats now have a limit and the little zap they got didn't harm them at all. My baby chicks will also be as safe.
