If you're being serious, what advice would you give to someone just starting out? As a Dom/me, sub, switch, slave, kinkster?

Learn as much as possible.

Read, attend demos and discussion groups. Network, talk to people.

Then figure out what you want to get out of WIITWD and stick to your boundaries.

Don't bother, you're wasting your time.

Figure out exactly what you want before you go looking

Go places. Meet people. Stay away from the internets.

TO the OP

Read , read, read and then read some more,
Find out where your local events are, go, introduce yourself to the organisers(you can usually find their details at munch sites), meet, talk, be friendly, courteous, or civil...
At events and munches dont touch anyone without permission, ie as in inappropriately, unless you know them,
Dont assume.
Because.
There is no ONE true way. Yours is yours.
Be careful with your identity, and your pictures, trust is earned and so is respect,
Dont be rude, unless invited...
Listen, ask, learn
Take no as a no, until you get comfortable with yourself and a partner..
Consent is key.
Enjoy yourself.

Just a few things I have found helpful...your mileage may vary:)
Edited to add...as Oside said, Learn your own boundaries beforehand is a good idea, limits and boundaries can save a lot of pain.(the unwanted kind)

Read.

Be yourself...flawed. One piece of a vast jigsaw is not enough for people like me - for example say I present myself as.
1. cavity stretcher - hmm wait i cannot even pretend that
2. A delicious thrasher hmm wait i cannot even pretend that
3. etc

How does one learn, what does one read, is rather more difficult to answer. Unfortunately you must learn nay decide that for yourself. Be yourself, ask and re-ask, analyse...grow evolve...Myself! I intently dislike bad stereotypes, grotesque caricatures, predators etc You tend to find their numbers are the more prevalent and they surround themselves with their kindred others - these fukers breed more fukers like them and I am, even after all this time, truly appalled.

What is newbie what is oldebie - again its difficult to answer that one without writing a chapter

"I am married to ******, who is looking for a female slave. I am also in love with ******"
