In this digital and portable cellphone with camera age, we have a new emerging problem at our schools. Boys are taking upskirt pictures of their female teachers and sharing it online among all their school mates. Also photographing their teachers, for example if one has a generous chest, they zoom in on it and write something lewd on the picture and post it online too. In one school, more than 30 boys were caught doing one of these things. And teachers also notice when they ask help for their school work, they always accidentally brush against their breasts and do it really subtly that the teachers have to give the boy the benefit of the doubt. These boys are between 13 to 16 yr old, so still very young. There is a huge dilemma on how to deal with them, as well as protect the teachers. What would people from other countries do? Should the teacher make a police report? And let the police handle it as a criminal offense? OR should the school deal with it internally? What consequences would be appropriate? Basically right now, teachers feel like they aren't protected because the ones committing the crimes are minors and usually let off with just warnings or a public caning or caning. And at the end of the day, you still got to go back to class and face these kids who violated you. PS: Honestly speaking, because we grew up in caning culture, our parents do it too, caning is like, for most kids here, is no big deal, like, you just get immune to it. I never felt sorry when I was publicly caned as a kid myself. And my first public caning was at 10 yr old. Felt absolutely no remorse or shame, and felt even heroic at that age anyway. Perhaps because my crime was stupid and not as severe as these boys. At 10 years old, I disobeyed the rule, that you can't climb monkey bars or cross the school pond until you are at least 11 yr old. And of course I was caned infront of the whole school as a warning to any kids from 7 to 10 yrs old to even thinking to do it. Anyway, right after the public caning, I went to do it again. They couldn't do anything to top public caning. And they know expelling me for those tiny crimes is not gonna pass the Ministry of Education definition of valid expelling reasons.

Laws differ place to place as to what they can be charged with, if anything, if you go that route; But if it is written into the school's acceptable use policy for technology, it can and should be dealt with as a discipline issue. And depending again on the laws, if they are doing this to female students, it can be criminal.

metal detectors and x ray scanners at all entrances, kids dont turn in the phone, then the metal detectors magnetic field fries the electronics, and if they try to slip it through the xray machine, same thing.

Please note: This is not an attempt to blame the teachers. The issue of students doing this needs to be dealt with as well. However, as a teacher of pubescent boys and girls, and previously a teacher of adult students (mostly male) I have found that I can stop or at least lessen this kind of behavior by what I wear. (And thus protect myself from embarrassment, etc. if the school fails to do so.) I do not wear short skirts (or any that it would be easy to see/reach/put a phone or other object beneath) to teach, I do not wear low cut or clingy tops, etc. Again, before anyone jumps down my throat, I'm not saying that anyone who has this done to them was dressing in a manner that 'asked for it'. What I am saying is that by dressing in a particular manner, it becomes very difficult for a situation such as the one you describe to occur. Any student that attempted to get a 'lewd' photograph of me would have to do something that could be clearly construed as assault to get it. As a self-protective solution in the absence of protection by school administration/law/etc., it seems to work. Now if only I could get students to stop sexting and snapchatting pictures of their own sexual body parts during study hall...

As I live in Asia, teachers actually dress very frumpy. Skirts are never short, but just at knee length, schools have strict policies on teachers dressing non-sexual, and considering we have uniforms for students too, the teachers must abide by the same rules, like female uniform has to be at the knee too. What these boys do, distract the teacher while asking her some questions about school work, while putting a phone under her skirt. They work in pairs or more. And definitely you will never see cleavage, but if a female is big chested, even if she wore turtle neck, it would be obvious she is big chested. And boys being boys always notice big breasts. THIS would be a very typical school teacher dressing around here. Turn in phones. But we teach kids what constitutes sexual harassment and assault. Posting lewd pictures online here would result in cyber bullying charges and a lawsuit for monetary damages to the parents. What should be done is for letters to go home to the parents explaining that any child who does this will be immediately expelled and that the parents agree to pay large fines. And these letters should be signed when the child first starts attending the school. Why haven't the parents been called in? That makes no sense.

Since we all know that Awareness' grasp of common sense, decency, ethics and morals is questionable at the best of times, do you honestly think any comment concerning his post will have any impact what so ever? Lets face it, he would wear a "Support your Local KKK Chapter" Tshirt to a Martin Luther King Jr. memorial rally, a hooters shirt to a women's rights event.
