Gee that article was hilarious RM - and I never picked you as having a sense of humour. But anyone who can make boring economics funny gets a tick in my book.
The funniest bit was the writers inane attempts to dismiss the gender gap in salaries despite every graph he produced showing large disparities in male and female incomes. The single most striking feature of the 3 graphs presented was that on every criterion men outscore females. For example, Figure 3 clearly indicates that male "market income" peaks at almost double that of females. Yet the writer doggedly ignores the 'bleeding obvious' (as Basil Fawlty put it) while he twists and squirms trying to make the case that the gender pay gap doesn't exist.
And what about this bit of pure comedy gold:
"It is true that at first glance, men dominate every field, from business to Pokémon Go achievements, which can lead some to think that there is a conspiracy against women. When you become familiar with evolutionary psychology, you realize that this is only a natural masculine propensity for status pursuit, that is now used against men. Anyhow, the male superiority in many fields is exactly what allows society to prosper. Years after the humiliating debunking of the wage gap, it’s time to address the real elephant in the room: the fact that women don’t pay taxes."
Wasn't the reference to the "address[ing] real elephant in the room" - delivered without a hint of self consciousness or irony I might add - almost magical sleight of hand as avoiding "addressing real elephant in the room" is precisely what the writer himself was engaged in. I'm sure some simpletons somewhere were genuinely impressed. The drool factor alone was through the roof!
Could you do us all a favour by posting any more comedy like this in the Humour section, not the Dungeon of Political and Religious Discussion? Thanks
