ORIGINAL: PeonForHer quote:
ORIGINAL: ThatDizzyChick quote:
ORIGINAL: shiftyw That quote has been proven false. People has denied it. It's false hope. Yup, pure bullshit. I mean come on people, if it were true, his primary opponents would have used it. On the other hand, it would had to have competed with the things he verifiably *did* say, and there were a *lot* of choice comments to choose between. Which is why so many people actually believe he said it, though, in fact he did not. It has also probably slipped the 'believers' mind that in 1998, FOX news was not as prominently watched as it is now. One more point, it proves the old adage, that, when someone sees it on the internet, they automatically assume the truth of the information. What Donald did say in 1998 was that he was 'considering a run for political office' and that he was a 'registered republican,' which was contrary to what he said ten years earlier when he stated he would not run for office at any time in the future. However, the quote, is partially true, in that he did say, at some points in his public life that he considered the voters of both parties gullible in that the majority do not think for themselves. He, like many others, noted that depending on the party, voters would spout items they heard on the various news networks as gospel. Unfortunately, this is fact. Donald Trump won for one simple reason, he did not play ball with the party establishment. This appealed to the voters as him being his own man. For good or bad, he is/was the type of person that people wanted to run for office. He thumbed his nose at every established GOP standard and laughed off all his GOP critics. Hillary on the other hand, spouted the same party line that had helped the dems when in the past, but at a time in American history when that was not the way to play the game. Trump's win will shake up the GOP. They realize that America wants health care reform but not the Affordable Care Act which has proved anything but. The social welfare systems are in need of an over haul, including Social Security, which is set up to allow congress to 'borrow' from the social security trust fund to meet budget needs. Illegal immigrants are also a problem, but a wall is not a viable solution. While some of his ideas are clearly unconstitutional, let us not forget that FDR pulled some things that were equally unconstitutional, and before SCOTUS shut them down, did achieve a lot of good. The only thing I would want is a secret service agent with orders to use a stun gun on the man if he ever suggested using nukes to deal with terrorists.
