Actually why are news media the ones counting these popular votes? Shouldn't there be an official government website to refer to for official figures?

I don't think the count is final yet, or at least I haven't seen anything official. If the final numbers are out there somewhere, I'd like to know. Google is worthless. As of this posting they're still showing Trump with 290 electoral votes and Clinton with 228 (here), which only adds up to 518.

There are millions of ballots that haven’t been counted yet from the 2016 presidential election . . . The New York Times estimated on November 12 that there are 7 million uncounted ballots in the country. ~Source

4 million in California, another 700K in Washington, and others around the country. They usually are done around the end of the month. Then it is certified.

here is where we are at as of the 12th.

If you're talking about an official final count, that won't happen for a few weeks yet (never does). And nothing is officially final until Dec. 19.

Heres a puzzle for you slobberbloggers. Tell me who the governor-elect of NC is, with a video of the concession and victory speeches by the principles. Can't do it? Didn't think so.

provisional ballot certification, mail ins, absentees, all hand counts.

counting ain't over.

ta got the link
Final #Election2016 numbers Trump: 62,972,226 Clinton: 62,277,750
ElectoralCollege vote #Trump 306 #Clinton 232 given its about 50/50 strange disparity and someone lost didn't they with the highest number of total cast votes casts in 2004ish

so 125 million voted from 240 million which is 52%
125 million voted from 200 registered to vote which is 62%...really higher than I thought

Trump 26% of the potential vote 31% corrected
Hillary 26% of the potential vote 31% corrected

Anyway I see turn out as 52%..

I dont see a mandate to govern - i would have said the same thing if the slightly different figures were reversed in bints favour.

Strange for a land that screams democracy they choose to exercise that right by not exercising it (48% chose not too).

The over all national popular vote is irrelevant because there is no over all national presidential election, rather there are 50 separate state presidential elections, each held under it's own rules with it's own procedures and practices. And the Presidency goes to the one who won the most of those 50 elections.

It's similar to the way that in Canada we do not elect the Prime Minister, we elect our local representative in 338 separate elections, and the leader of the party with the most representatives elected becomes Prime Minister. Justin Trudeau only received a little over 26,000 votes, that is because only the people in his home riding (think congressional district) get the option of voting for or against him.

When discussing an election, it is important to understand exactly what the election is and how it operates.

Sadly, here is the problem with the electoral voting process (in my opinion).

I live in a state that has not had the electoral votes go to a Democrat since Johnson way back in the 60's. The sentiment here, now, is this:

If you want to vote Democrat: There is no point in voting since the Republicans will get it anyway.
If you want to vote Republican: There is no need to vote since the Republican will get the electoral vote anyway.

So you end up with a lot of people from both sides that don't even bother to vote.

It seems to me that the "proper" thing to do would be to split each states electoral votes in as near the same proportions as can be done to reflect the popular vote. If 45% of a state votes for XYZ, then the electoral votes should reflect that as near as possible.

Just my opinion.

I said it was interesting , not that it was gospel. The main thing that helped it was that it is the first one accounting for all electoral votes.

In your last election what % of the voters voted on not just for, but even on you Prime Minister? I'm thinking under 1% of the voters.
