when I see stuff like that I am reminded of the maxim "if a man will not work, he will not eat."

the case of "no one else is willing to do" might not be the case if those unwilling to do the work weren't given welfare and years' long unemployment benefits.

I figure they make better money standing on the median with a sign...

I LOVE Mexican immigrants. My eldest son married one. She came here legally.

I used to live in a very mezo-American neighborhood. I LOVED it (except on cinqo de mayo). I have no use for those (from ANY country) that enter our country illegally or over-stay their visas.

The issues in relation to illegal Mexican and Central American immigrants is the financial drain, both in services offered to illegals and the shipping of our dollars overseas.

The issue with open borders, as I mentioned before, can best be illustrated by taking an honest look at how open borders are working out for Europe.

We must be the only civilization in history, when faced with an angry horde bent on wiping them out has yelled: "Throw open the gates! Throw yourselves on their swords/stand in front of their bullets!".

Yeah. That'll fuckin' teach 'em.

Seems there is a war between the feds and cities brewing.

Because states and cities can't be required to enforce federal law, and there's no U.S. requirement that police ask about a person's immigration status, it's likely that any Trump effort to crack down on sanctuary cities would focus on those that refuse to comply with ICE requests, said Roy Beck, chief executive of NumbersUSA, which wants to see immigration levels reduced.

It's also unclear what money Trump might pull. For Congress to impose conditions on federal money heading to the states, the conditions must be related to the funding's purpose, the U.S. Supreme Court has said. HERE

Thought so, so Trump had better get imaginative.

Sure is a good thing they don't do this, looking for Jews...or as in the past, Catholics. And they didn't have to have allegedly committed a crime...ask the Japanese that survived worse, internment.

What happened to small limited govt. formed only to protect our inalienable rights ?

That's easy; "Sorry, your check must have fell under someone's desk, or down the elevator shaft." "We'll keep looking."

Yup, there's no shortage of high school dropouts and people with bogus college "degrees" to do those jobs.
I picked flowers and tomatoes when I was 12-13 after school. It was hard "stoop labor" but I liked it and made $1.00 an hour.

This this particular instance immigration is left to the Congress.

There is no immigration clause in the Constitution. Our state likes Mexican immigrants. They do jobs like picking crops no one else is willing to do. There would be some support in this state if ALL immigration was banned. The H1B Visa program makes it very hard for recent college graduates to find jobs in Silicon Valley...

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Congressional power to regulate naturalization, from Article 1, Section 8, includes the power to regulate immigration (see, for example, Hampton v. Mow Sun Wong, 426 U.S. 88 [1976]). It would not make sense to allow Congress to pass laws to determine how an immigrant becomes a naturalized resident if the Congress cannot determine how, or even if, that immigrant can come into the country in the first place. Just because the Constitution lacks the word immigration does not mean that it lacks the concept of immigration.

Continuing a bogus righty meme. You should read the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families Act before you spread your partisan lies any further.

Not to mention the fact that welfare and unemployment are NOT one and the same thing - though often used interchangeably.

LadyDemura -> RE: Trump to hit cities funding for sanctuary (11/20/2016 9:34:58 PM)

Unemployment is so messed up that the way it's set up now, it incentives people to apply for jobs they are slightly unqualified for, and stay unemployed. That's the best way to game the current system. It also messes up any chance to having real data for true unemployment...

Why again is universal basic income such a bad idea? Seems like it would encourage people to be entrepreneurs...

Universal basic income? Where would the money come from and would everyone get it? Like would doctors and lawyers get it too, for example.

I don't understand the reference.

epiphiny43 -> RE: Trump to hit cities funding for sanctuary (11/21/2016 1:11:43 AM)

Small limited govt. is for when Democrats are in. When Republicans have an agenda, it's patriotism and God Fearing Righteousness, not big govt. interfering in personal rights and local/State governance. And, of course, Multi-National Corporation benefits. The latest circuit court ruling (This week) says local control of GMO labeling and restrictions on planting as well as reporting on toxic pesticide and herbicide usage just got banned as superseded by Federal Authority. Big Ag and Big Pharm combined beat any local or State movement. They own Congress and the Judiciary is following along on a leash. Little chance the SCOTUS will rule on this before Trump knocks it back to pre-depression Right values. Only reverence among the Nine for precedence might save a few of the modernizations of US law.

in what universe is paraphrasing scripture is a partisan lie comrade??

and to what extent conservatives or republicans actually pay attention to that maxim is immaterial.

whats more, the demographic at hand are those "unwilling to work", not those who are but who could just some extra help.

apart from that I labeled them as distinct, your point is also completely immaterial to the conversation, which is, so long as government helps people who wont work, to eat, many of those people will not work when the opportunity becomes available to them.

bounty44 -> RE: Trump to hit cities funding for sanctuary (11/21/2016 2:06:14 AM)

please pay attention in life.

generally speaking democrats AND republicans value different things and are willing to use government to achieve those ends.

however, even in that paradigm, the republicans are at least beholden to the constitution, while its the democrats who are notorious for exceeding its limitations.

whats more, within the republican party is a strain of people who are indeed for a smaller more limited government. to act like they don't exist is a misrepresentation.

lastly, in part what youre pointing out when it comes to government size/power, though I don't think for a moment it was your intent, is the corruption on a person's principles when they find themselves in power.

Lucylastic -> RE: Trump to hit cities funding for sanctuary (11/21/2016 4:02:22 AM)

beholden to the constitution..
really?
what about the Muslim registry, torture(waterboarding), ignoring the 4th and 14th, ignoring the 1st, how many times have republicans had "bills"" overturned because they are unconstitutional in the past six years??? what utter bollocks you speak.
Not to mention healthcare,
Limited government if it means not letting flint residents have delivery of clean water because its expensive, limited government except when it comes to religion and anyones civil rights
Medicare, SS and medicaid all being "reformed" will not lead to less government.

Then by your definitions nutsuckers are extrememly corrupt. For all their howl about smaller and limited government, there are sure a lot of them in it, trying to shred the constitution.

What Muslim registry?
Who's waterboarding?
Who's ignoring the amendments?
Why are you prattling on about shit you've admitted you're ignorant about?

What ius the immigration quota from mexico dumbass? When you figgure that out you will question how your daughter in law became a citizen.

I used to live in a very mezo-American neighborhood. I LOVED it (except on cinqo de mayo).

If you had a clue about the meaning of "cinco de mayo" you would not make such stupid statements.

I have no use for those (from ANY country) that enter our country illegally or over-stay their visas.

You do realize that both of those crimes are misdemeanors. How do you feel about those who don't use their seat belt?
I have yet to see you castigate those who employ illegal aliens which is a felony. Why the double standard?

The issues in relation to illegal Mexican and Central American immigrants is the financial drain, both in services offered to illegals and the shipping of our dollars overseas.

[n]Not your dollars since you did not earn them.
