quote:

From the earliest days of his campaign, Donald J. Trump made keeping manufacturing jobs in the United States his signature economic issue, and the decision by Carrier, the big air-conditioner company, to move 2,000 of them from Indiana to Mexico was a tailor-made talking point for him on the stump.

On Thursday, Mr. Trump and Mike Pence, Indiana’s governor and the vice-president elect, plan to appear at Carrier’s Indianapolis plant to announce they’ve struck a deal with the company to keep a majority of the jobs in the state, according to officials with the transition team as well as Carrier.

Mr. Trump will be hard-pressed to alter the economic forces that have hammered the Rust Belt for decades, but forcing Carrier and its parent company, United Technologies, to reverse course is a powerful tactical strike that will rally his base even before he takes office.

In exchange for keeping the factory running in Indianapolis, Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence are expected to reiterate their campaign pledges to be friendlier to business by easing regulations and overhauling the corporate tax code. In addition, Mr. Trump is expected to tone down his rhetoric threatening 35 percent tariffs on companies like Carrier that shift production south of the border.

Not even in office yet and he's keeping campaign promises.

And if he continues to keep them the result will be a massive depression.

Based on my employment at manufacturing companies in the mid-west, I can assure you that any major manufacturing company will not "cancel" the announced movement of 1,000 jobs without receiving some sort of financial benefit in return.
I would prefer to wait and see what Carrier will receive in exchange for keeping those jobs in Indiana.

I would also look closely at a timeline, i.e., how long are they committing to keep those jobs in Indiana before "reviewing the situation again"?

Really??

No wall.
That glorious pristine beautiful wall that he constantly talked about.
"And who's gonna pay for the wall?? The Mexicans."
And in a TV interview (60 minutes?) he said that some parts could stay as a fence rather than a wall.
So... not rhetoric about immigration control - a real wall.
Campaign promise failed.

Scrap Obamacare. Really?
He's back-pedalled and now says he's keeping most of it and changing some bits.
Campaign promise failed.

Total and complete ban on Muslims entering the country.
Not happening.
It's probably unconstitutional and not even possible.
Campaign promise failed.

Crooked Hillary is going to be prosecuted and go to jail.
Not happening.
He also promised a 'special prosecutor' to put her in jail for her crimes.
Now he says he doesn't want to harm her.
He even congratulated her on her years of hard work in office.
No special prosecutor; no prosecution.
Campaign promise failed.

Scrap the TPP.
Really??
From what I've heard, he might withdraw the US from it, but it won't be cancelled.
Campaign promise failed.

Fighting for the little man against the corrupt bankers of Wall Street.
One of his main campaign points - fighting against Corporate America.
Yet he has appointed soo many corporate people into his team including an ex Goldman Sachs man!
Campaign promise failed.

And that's just 6 off the top of my head.
Keeping campaign promises?? Hardly.

Every Trump voter knows the wall is a suggestion to fix illegal immigration. I always said once he gets more info on how things work within, he will have to tweak his plans to still achieve the same thing, but maybe in a different way.

Actually, throughout his campaign and his interviews and debates. He was talking about getting everybody insurance coverage, but in a way where it can be cheaper for everybody. And it wouldn't be compulsory. Personally the "removing Obama care" from it, would be simply literally removing the word "obama care" from it. He will change it to something more successful. You gotta stop just reading the mainstream sound bites and one liners about Trump, and really watch in his indepth interviews.

This was already changed to some Muslims when there was backlash about discrimination about innocent Muslims. And now they are looking at a Muslim registry. The beauty is, every issue, Trump is gonna do something about it as promise, but without full extensive inside information, he can only make suggestions from whatever limited information he has on the challenges of implementation.

No Trump voters cares about Hillary prosecution after she is prevented from being President. And infact this shows that Trump is kind and not vindictive. He is not gonna prosecute his daughter's best friend's mother. I expected this.

Trump always just wanted US to pull out of TPP. TPP is an Asian thing. In Asia itself, our news are having alot of drama about TPP now, because many Asian countries don't want to continue with it IF US pulls out. They only want in, IF US is in it. It might be totally scrape. Many Asian countries see no benefits to them, as they wanted to just exploit US.

It continues to show he is his own man and not beholden to anybody. He is what people voted for.

He wants a team, that is gonna bring back financial health, economical health and the key promise is, bring more jobs back to US, and increase wages. That was what people voted for.

And bring manufacturing back to the US. This is very good that he is already working on it with Carrier.

It's what Herr Drumpff has said since winning the election - on many TV interviews.
Clearly a contradiction to his campaign promises at every stage along the way.

I call that being two-faced.

Many will pick politicians on both sides who changed tack with failed promises during their presidency.
But Herr Drumpff has done it before he's even installed into the oval office.
That's a fucking quick turn-about.

Try looking at the many TV presentations that were at his rallies.
Try looking at the many TV interviews he's had after he won.
He categorically stated it would be a wall - a real wall, paid for by the Mexicans.
He even stated that some parts of it could remain as a fence instead of a wall.
It wasn't rhetoric about fixing immigration, he was truly talking about building a big beautiful wall.

I spent hours watching the US elections - not just the soundbites.
He stated many times that he was going to scrap Obamacare.
In one of the primaries and in many of his rallies he clearly stated that Obamacare is "...going out the window folks".
He also stated quite clearly that he was going to completely replace it.
Since he was elected, he says he's going to keep it and tweak it.
Perhaps it's you who ought to take notice of what he's saying rather than what you think he's saying or putting your spin on it.

I gave you a link to his quote somewhere earlier.
He categorically stated that he was going to totally and completely ban all Muslims entering the country.
Whatever he wants to do with Muslims, it's almost certainly against the constitution and impossible.
Yet he still screeched it at every opportunity; on TV and at his rallies.
Perhaps you need to re-tune your selective comprehension.

TPP was agreed between all 12 countries.
Most think it's a reasonable deal and will help with international trade.
Only Trump thinks it's unfair to the US and wants to scrap it.

And there's quite a few 'in the know' and economists who think his strategy is disaster and will bankrupt the country.
There's no way he can cut corporate tax rates to 15% and invest what he wants to in the infrastructure - the numbers just don't add up.

And how is he going to bring back jobs to the US??
First, he has to fix the infrastructure.
Second, he has to get education up to meet the needs of companies relocating back to the US and the new industries he wants to revive.
Both of these will take many years, even decades.
He doesn't have the money or the time to get these done even if he manages to get everything passed thru the senate and congress without a hitch.

And I'm not a Hillary supporter either.
I think they are both as bad as each other in different ways.
But on balance, I think Trump is marginally the worst of the two.

As I said in reply to Greta's post, they are as bad as each other but in different ways.

Personally, there's not many repubs that I have any time for, past or present, let alone a self-confessed con-man and a bankrupt.
I actually liked Obama as did most of the world outside the US.
He inherited a disaster and actually saved several major US industries as well as kept the country out of a severe recession.
But even he didn't get everything right.

Double standards seem about right in US politics recently.
I think the whole system needs to be scrapped, redesigned, and started from scratch.
But that ain't gonna happen any time soon and certainly not in my lifetime and probably not my kids either.

Carrier just showed corporations how to beat Donald Trump

We need a president who can stand up to big corporations, not fold to their demands.

By Bernie Sanders December 1 at 6:00 AM
Bernie Sanders is a U.S. senator from Vermont.

Donald Trump is going to have to toughen up if he wants to serve American workers. (Steven Senne/AP)
Today, about 1,000 Carrier workers and their families should be rejoicing. But the rest of our nation’s workers should be very nervous.

President-elect Donald Trump will reportedly announce a deal with United Technologies, the corporation that owns Carrier, that keeps less than 1,000 of the 2100 jobs in America that were previously scheduled to be transferred to Mexico. Let’s be clear: It is not good enough to save some of these jobs. Trump made a promise that he would save all of these jobs, and we cannot rest until an ironclad contract is signed to ensure that all of these workers are able to continue working in Indiana without having their pay or benefits slashed.

In exchange for allowing United Technologies to continue to offshore more than 1,000 jobs, Trump will reportedly give the company tax and regulatory favors that the corporation has sought. Just a short few months ago, Trump was pledging to force United Technologies to “pay a damn tax.” He was insisting on very steep tariffs for companies like Carrier that left the United States and wanted to sell their foreign-made products back in the United States. Instead of a damn tax, the company will be rewarded with a damn tax cut. Wow! How’s that for standing up to corporate greed? How’s that for punishing corporations that shut down in the United States and move abroad?

In essence, United Technologies took Trump hostage and won. And that should send a shock wave of fear through all workers across the country.

The heating and air conditioning company will invest $16 million to keep its operations in the state, the report said.

The deal would cover 800 workers from the Indianapolis furnace plant and an additional 300 research and headquarters positions that weren't planned to go to Mexico, according to the Journal.

But 600 jobs will still move from Indianapolis to Mexico.

Carrier also still plans to close a second plant in Huntington, Ind., shifting another 700 jobs to Mexico.

The dawn has come, and prosperity has arrived in America.
Mark this day on your calendars people, for it will be remembered as the start of the new golden age.
