It fucking sucks.
It is also a really good example why it is so very important to have a written Constitution that clearly delimits the power of the government.

FR~

I have nothing against it.
If you are a law-abiding citizen and keep your nose clean, you have nothing to fear from it.
I would also welcome Identity Cards for the same reason.
It might actually flush out the fraudsters, con men, illegals and terrorists.

And unlike those of Dizzy's persuasion, we don't like a government that has no power.
Recent events in the US clearly show that power driven by the people is severely flawed and only a step away from anarchy.
Your idea of 'checks and balances' is self-harming and destructive and nothing sensible gets done.
We don't like that idea at all.
That's why most of us let it pass without complaint - we happen to like it, it wasn't apathy on our part.
It's better to have it out in the open, legal, and well-defined as to what they can and can't do than have it underground and in secret.
Snowden proved it happens all over the place and that most don't know about it, including governments - it's super-secret.
I'd much prefer to have it out in the open and exposed to scrutiny.

From the link:

The Investigatory Powers Act legalises powers that the security agencies and police had been using for years without making this clear to either the public or parliament. In October, the investigatory powers tribunal, the only court that hears complaints against MI6, MI5 and GCHQ, ruled that they had been unlawfully collecting massive volumes of confidential personal data without proper oversight for 17 years.

Snowden in 2013 revealed the scale of mass surveillance – or bulk data collection as the security agencies prefer to describe it – by the US National Security Agency and the UK’s GCHQ, which work in tandem.

and for your punishment mothafucka for your crimes against the people we are going to legalize it! That'll teach ya bitches a good lesson!

welcome to another episode of brit insanity.

Legalising what they have been doing for years, what a surprise.....
Canada has the same issues and its been known for years
Look up CSIS
Yes its sickening, and nothing will stop it....
What I am surprised at, is that anyone was unaware...

That only holds true if the relevant government and its agents are law-abiding and squeaky clean. They continually show that they're not, though. At the same time, the government and its agents guard their own secrecy pretty jealously.

It's completely consistent with the socialist agenda of the UK.

Remember, Orwell called it "IngSoc". English socialism - and my my, haven't the Poms just done their best to make his dystopia a reality.

It goes far beyond that, not only do they hold their corrupt activities secret and cover everything up that leaks using media and propaganda mills, they collect al the data you ever utter through any communications utilities, and its not what you actually did its what they will 'create' out of what you did if they ever have a reason to hang your ass, even if only to drag you through the courts and suck money from you in their court system despite what you did was perfectly legal.

Of course we live in a generation of people that cant see past their nose even with deep space telemetry installed.

So are you suggesting the big banks have a socialist agenda?

No, I'm suggesting Britain is run by an oligarchy committed to social control and that it operates at a level above that of the quasi-differences between the Conservatives and the Labour Party.

The Tories have done nothing to roll back the Labour Party's extensive program of anti-male legislation and until they do, that's effectively tacit approval of what is undoubtedly a socialist agenda. (It goes without saying that Britain is an absolute hell-hole for your average man in the street).

The socialists pursue their idiotic Utopian paradise where everyone is nice to each other and the Conservatives pursue the dollar but unless they actually roll back legislation they're effectively continuing down the socialist path. Brexit is the first anti-socialist move in quite a long while - and one that came about as a dramatic miscalculation of popular sentiment - and while it's encouraging, there's no doubt in my mind that Britain is still comprehensively fucked.

Yes, because as Snowden revealed, that's really worked out well in the US.

Oh, wait. I forgot which moron I was talking to. Never mind, the level of thought required for this one is beyond you.
