Because of politics.

i cant watch video from where im at but im going to take a shot in the not so dark and maybe I will hit the target nevertheless.

no one really "doesn't believe in science"

people interpret scientific findings differently.

people have questions about and answers to some things that science cannot adequately answer.

some "science" involves as much faith as does religious belief.

did I cut through the likely pompous partisan dribble?

Nope, but you spewed a geyser of pompus felchgobbling partisan dribble.

I read or heard that up to 45% of Americans believe in the reality of Hell and Damnation. The doing of science requires empirical evidence. See a disconnect?

Meh, pretty obvious and elementary stuff.

The narrow mindedness and the insistent need to categorize others on here springs eternal.
I am a Christian and I love science, as do many other Christians.
Many can't accept that you can evolve and be a believer.
The fact that there is so much "out there" in the universe that we don't understand, makes my faith even stronger.
I don't see a disconnect at all.

I love and find most aspects of "science" fascinating, especially astronomy.

This post demonstrates one reason why people don't believe in science.
It's because they don't understand what it is.

the only "disconnect" I see is in your thinking.

the existence of hell is not a question that "science" can answer. see my point #3 above.

and it does not follow that since there are some questions that science cannot answer, that one "does not believe in science."

that should be the end of it right there, but unfortunately, like the cult of AGW, it wont be.

Monckton has no formal training in science. He has degrees in classics and journalism only. He's never written a peer-reviewed paper. One of many rebuttals to his views here: http://static.stthomas.edu/jpabraham/?utm_source=ustredirect&utm_medium=Vanity&utm_campaign=Abraham%20Presentation

An odd little thing: in Britain, people tend not to big up their hereditary titles. It would be an embarrassment to do that.

Whoever wrote that list really stretched a lot of concepts to arrive at his conclusion.
For starters, there is no 'truth' in science... however there is consensus.

The consensus changes when a stronger theory presents itself.

In the case of climate change, no such theory has emerged, or seems likely.

Most obviously the fact that "science" is talked about as a single thing, rather than a variety of disciplines and fields.
Even leaving that aside though, the points suggested are either bullshit or in a couple of cases (3 and 4) contradictory.
(I'd be particularly interested in an explanation of how science thinks that humans are special, given that one of the main objections to evolutionary theory from fundamentalists is that the notion that we have a genetic heritage involving lower forms of life is a contradiction of the role they see us in as God's final word and perfect creation.)

thank you for that:)

klmpong -> RE: Why Don't Some People Believe In Science? (12/2/2016 6:17:38 AM)

I don't think the problem is that people don't believe in "science" but rather, they don't believe what scientists say.
Science has become a religion, but that has always been the case. Truth has always had to fight to be heard.
For the "love of money" is the root of all evil and that evil shows no exemptions.
Evolution is a prime example.
The FACT is, that there is not one shred of objective, scientific evidence to support evolution. In FACT , according to ALL the laws of physics and biology, evolution is impossible. Yet we have carnival barkers getting on national TV and stating that evolution is fact. It takes a whole lot more "faith" to accept evolution than it does to believe in God. True, objective science points to "creation by intelligent design" , but that goes against the church of science so it is buried by media. For every "scientist" that stands by evolution , you will find three that will discount it. Of course if one goes against science doctrine, they are ostracized.
see - https://movie4k.tv/Expelled-No-Intelligence-Allowed-watch-movie-3579030.html

Global warming is not disputed as much as some would have you believe. It is the fact that there are those that would use it to acquire a power structure designed for there own ends, mainly ...cash, that people shy away from.
That, coupled with the fact that GW has happened before ( long before the industrial age) confuses the issue.

In short, I don't think it is a problem of believing in anything as much as people are waking up and just not willing to buy the bullshit from the messenger anymore.

On a side note,.........

I want to give a shout out and hearty thanks to all the dems in the senate that guaranteed Donald Trump two terms this week.
Those of us with common sense, really appreciate it!

I wish everyone a prosperous and peaceful day!

This is from the article, and it doesn't even make sense:

quote:

a great number of astrophysicists and cosmologists are eager to talk about how the universe conforms to the “anthropic principle”.

There is absolutely no scientific reason why human understanding – above that of slugs, dolphins and monkeys – should be wide enough to encompass the universe. Anthropocentrism – the assumption that humans take center-stage in the universe – is rife in the sciences, as it is in religion.

So the author is saying that science is a religion because there's no scientific reason why scientists should accept this sort of thinking. I'm not even sure that this sort of fallacy has a name... how can science not be scientific enough??? That's like saying a thing is actually something else because it isn't itselfful enough.

Most of the arguments aren't really about science or the scientific method so much as certain members of the scientific community... but it seems mostly just like a lot of griping about easy targets.
