Status: offline 		US President-elect Donald Trump has been named as Time magazine's Person of the Year for 2016.

The property tycoon took the title after winning an unexpected victory over Hillary Clinton in November's presidential election.

Mr Trump told NBC's Today show shortly after the announcement it was a "great honour" which "meant a lot" to him.

He was chosen from a shortlist that included Mrs Clinton and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The former leader of the UK Independence Party, Nigel Farage, was also on the list for his role in the successful campaign for Britain to leave the European Union.

Mrs Clinton came second in the selection.

Biggest basket case of the year is a more apt heading methinks.

Means nothing to anybody in the US. People aware of the history at all almost instantly think; "like Hitler was."

Since inception in 1927 (Lindbergh) it's been 'awarded' to every US president since, excepting Hoover and Ford.

It's basically a "who got a lot of press this year" award.

Hence such in the listing as Gandhi, Wallis Simpson, Hitler, Stalin (2), Mossadegh (overthrown following year by UK/US), Elizabeth II, Khrushchev, Ayatollah Khomeini, Ted Turner, Mark Zuckerberg, etc.

Status: offline 		Didn't know that (ta-your a source of more pertinent yet obscure information than me and WM combined) - but they are well aware of his CV and it does not make for pleasant reading.

The short list of eg Farage is fuking ridiculous – their campaign was similar to trumps lies and damned lies.

So I keep telling the internet since its conception I have a forty foot penis – should I too, and rightly so, not feature on the cover of Times scandal mag?...jumbo spread :P

UK we just know time is a magazine and their press tell us its a big cheese/thingy to be on the front cover.

Given their criteria for who they name for the personorange blob with a mouth like a dog's arse and bad hair of the year, I'm a bit surprised this is the first time he's got that one. Was he never given that back in the '80s or '90s?

But I suppose I should have said "someone in the political or scientific realm who got a lot of press this year." Otherwise many celebrities (which is all Trump was until this year) could also be considered.
