Actually darling, you do more complaining than all the feminists I know combined.

By the way, I live a fucking awesome life.

if you say so, but the evidence seems to point to the contrary.

Really? What keeps feminism alive again? What keeps feminism appearing relevant again? If feminists stopped complaining, feminism would be dead over night.

What's your opinion on all them poor feminists who are victims in life because of this big bad invisible patriarchy ghost that's keeping them down?

Oh...ummmm insert double standard "here".

You really don't actually pay any attention to anything that is said, do you dear?

So pointing at others going overboard at a song makes me the one going overboard. lolz

No, crying about it (and everything else you cry about on a daily basis) in a forum where nobody is exhibiting the behavior you're crying about, is going overboard.

Nope. You usually use this same old tired tactic when you can't defend your self. I've seen you do this to others.

Do the feminazis have a position on the Divinyls advocacy of domestic violence?

Or is that OK because the lead singer is arguably female?

As a self proclaimed feminist- and an intersectional one at that-
Music (and art in general) can be problematic. I think it's important to point out these things and realize who you are enjoying art at the advantage of. Knowing it's problematic- and not supporting it yourself- and pointing out to others that something is problematic is a lot different than just bitching and crying. I'm all about having hard conversations about art that makes me uncomfortable- but I would prefer a two sided discussion with another adult- not listening to a fucking baby have a meltdown over shit that isn't there.

Personally- OH passing a ban on abortion after six weeks with no caveat for those who are victims of rape or incest- is much much more worth my bitching and crying than "Baby it's cold outside". Or I'd rather stop the systematic murder of trans folx. I'd like to get rape numbers down in general. And I'd like to not see another fucking rapist running our country.

Those are the things on my feminist agenda. Hardly any of which I mentioned being gender specific.

I've had ICU roommates who complained less than the OP does.

Just like how a male assumes he wants to get drunk and fuck, it means he's a rapist. If you can't see the bigotry in that, you're a god damn moron. The only legitimate gender issue I see here is androphobia.

I don't normally wish ill on anyone, but my hope for you is that you encounter REAL problems, so that you can learn perspective.

Have you ever been on a feminist forum or a woman's studies class? I wonder what they talk about?

Where can I get this license that feminists attain? The license to complain without being a whiner?

Well, try a good shrink first.

They should ban Every Breath You Take too. It's a total stalker song. Seriously, listen to the lyrics and think about it...

I don't believe I said anything about the man in this song being a rapist. I think coercive behavior and her asking "say what's in this drink?" Is pretty creepy- pretty much regardless of gender. If you're begging that hard for sex and inviting someone over, getting them drunk, on a night when there's bad weather- no matter who you are or what- you're being a jerk, and creepy and pushy.

I am a member of dozens of feminist forums. I have yet to see one person advocate for banning this song. I've seen them share the rewrite- but that is not the same as advocating for banning it.

Like I said- there's a lot bigger fish to fry. Much bigger in art and media alone- but even that's pretty low on the list.

I promise you- no one is coming for your Christmas carols.

Again- I just called the song creepy. I didn't even say rapey. I think Mommy Kissing Santa Clause is creepy too- and for that matter- Santa Baby while not at the same level as the other two- she's still being pretty insistent.

But again- bigger fish OP.

shiftyw -> RE: Activists push to ban ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ because it promotes date rape (12/7/2016 7:33:47 PM)

OP- here's a situation that I think we both can agree is creepy/rapey. A friend of yours invites you over her house. You don't have a car so you have to take hers. She starts getting you very drunk, next thing you know maybe she's even slipped you something but you can't quiete tell? You aren't attracted to her, for whatever reason, she's fat, ugly, her vagina has teeth- whatever. She keeps pushing you, touching you, etc. in order to not hurt your friends feelings you laugh a few of these off. When you directly ask her- did you put something weird in this drink?? She says "your eyes are like stars!" When you say your friends will make fun of you and your family will lose respect for you if you sleep with her- she reminds you that you can't effectively leave because you don't have a car, and even romanticizes this idea as if it will make a fun story later when she marries you.

How does that feel to you?
Creepy?
Uncomfortable?

Or should you just take it as a compliment like a good boy no matter how unattractive she is or how little you want to have sex with her?

Seriously- if a woman or a man does this- it's creepy. I'm- and very few others on this thread- are saying men stand alone in the creepy department.

Actually I prefer Winter Wonderland where it goes:

He'll say are you married?
We'll say no man
But you can do the job
When you're in town.

Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gotto truly be a horny slut(s). You know, the proverbial oxymoron.

It was Parson Brown, they were telling him he could marry them.

The only people who want to ban this have to be
totally ignorant of the history of the song.

It was written by the great Frank Loesser as a
song to sing with his wife. She tells the story here
on Wiki:

''Loesser wrote the duet in 1944 and premiered the song with his wife, Lynn Garland, at their Navarro Hotel in New York housewarming party, and performed it toward the end of the evening, signifying to guests that it was nearly time to end the party. Frank would introduce himself as the "Evil of Two Loessers", a play on the theme of the song, trying to keep the girl from leaving, and on the phrase "lesser of two evils". This was a period when the Hollywood elite's chief entertainment was throwing parties and inviting guests who were expected to perform. Garland wrote that after the first performance, "We become instant parlor room stars. We got invited to all the best parties for years on the basis of 'Baby.' It was our ticket to caviar and truffles. Parties were built around our being the closing act." Garland considered it their song and was furious when Loesser told her he was selling the song. Garland wrote, "I felt as betrayed as if I'd caught him in bed with another woman." He sold it to MGM.[4]''

On NPR her daughter told the same story about it. Then she went on to say
that after her mother saw the checks come in she asked; Do we have
another song we could sell?

Since Frank Loesser also wrote Guys and Dolls, they did fine. But anyone
who thinks the woman in the song was a victim is clueless. It was written
to be a sophisticated, witty and aware on both sides.

It's creepy because it comes from a male?

No dear, it's creepy because it is about trying to get somebody drunk (and possibly pull a Cosby and drug them) in order to fuck them
in fact it's still creepy when the genders are reversed:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtoW4aV-CIc

See? It's just a plain old creepy song, one of many, many creepy songs over the years. like this one ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j75tJNYwWkY ) great song, but creepy as fuck when you consider that Sting used to be a school teacher.

I don't see that in the lyrics, DC. Seems like the sad lonely cry of a rejected lover. Can't be stalking if he/she is asleep and dreaming. And isn't that a stretch? That Sting used to be a teacher? Yes it is.

Oh, can't you see
You belong to me
How my poor heart aches with every step you take

Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I'll be watching you

Since you've gone I've been lost without a trace
I dream at night I can only see your face
I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep crying baby, baby please

I loves that tune. But now, spoilt. Drat!
