The media wasn't excited about Hillary getting in, they were simply contemptuous of Trump. There's a difference, though I'm not sure you will ever be able to understand it.

The problem is that the media overestimated the voters. They thought that Trump was a joke... like any intelligent person, they looked at him and thought 'how could anyone possibly support this incompetent asshole?'. They couldn't resist mocking him, repeating every insane thing he said, giving him all of this free press and free attention... and people ended up listening to what he was saying simply because they couldn't look away... and because they were stupid and desperate enough to buy into some of it.

The problem was that he wasn't a joke, he was very very dangerous... and it wasn't until much later in his campaign that they started to realize it.

And now the danger has become reality.

I'm seriously dreading 2017.
