Wait until Putin discovers oppressed Russian minorities in the once Russian territories of Alaska and the Aleut islands

Right, how dare we oppress them, that is Putin's job.

Not anymore. Trump wants in.

....the snippet with "Californian embassy" in quotes? Yes.
I assumed basic comprehension literacy. I am sorry.

At no point did I ever say anything about there being an embassy, leaving that that to the headline.

However, it was you that quoted the article that there has been a courtship between the secessionist group and a Kremlin-funded group.

It’s been a mostly silly movement that has waned and ebbed, depending on which political party has the White House. Yesterday, one Republican-dominated Northern California county decided to actually hold a vote to secede — and it passed 4-1 according to the Redding Record Searchlight reporter Sean Longoria.

It's the conservatives, not the liberals.

Um, that's one CA County looking to secede from California. That's not the CalExit group.

Secede to where -- the independent county country?

Oregon? Their own State? They voted to secede from California. IMO, stupid, but it is what it is. The writer of that article going back to the Civil War to show how ridiculous this County's vote was, was, ridiculous as it wasn't a good example by any stretch.

But, it still comes down to Lefties wanting CA to secede from the US and form it's own country. The vote in this one Republican-run county has fuckall to do with CalExit's supporters.

While I am still not sure it is in my personal best interest for this to happen, I'd love to see how unsuccessful financially a super conservative California-less USA might be. Entertainment industry, bye. Tech industry, bye. High median annual income, bye. Better seriously upgrade the ports of Portland and Seattle, if they don't join us, if you want to trade with the Far East also, though it seems the non-California states think they can do without. Have fun with that.

'Calexit' founders lack liberal bonafides - The Mercury News

Nov 26, 2016 - Louis Marinelli and Marcus Evans were both registered Republicans two years ago when they formed what is now known as Yes California.

While that is interesting, the end result of this hinges on just what the Trump administration turns out to be. Without a Trump Presidency, this never had any real chance. It's still hard to say just what the Trump administration will be like, if it's perceived to be really bad by Californians, this might gain some real traction.

Long Beach, Los Angeles and Oakland are major seaports on the West Coast, with goods transported inland from there. Without them, all that US traffic would have to go through Tacoma, and it's not set up to handle that much. Alternatives mean Houston or New Orleans, a long trip from the Pacific.

No price is too high for being free of California.

You know what California has in common with a breakfast cereal? Once you get past all the fruits and the nuts, all you have left are the flakes.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Adios, California (PRoD)

As it seems to me, those locations would want to keep handling that traffic for the sake of the jobs and the profitability of the operations, and (as you note) it would be important to the remaining U.S. that those ports continue to function as gateways for our Pacific trade. That makes business as usual the winning option for both parties.

Then there's the issue of fresh water for CA, which largely comes from surrounding states.
