Freedom of speech innit.

18 U.S. Code 201 - Bribery of public officials and witnesses

The U.S. Code disagrees, Bama:

quote:

(a) For the purpose of this section—
(1) the term “public official” means Member of Congress, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner, either before or after such official has qualified, or an officer or employee or person acting for or on behalf of the United States, or any department, agency or branch of Government thereof, including the District of Columbia, in any official function, under or by authority of any such department, agency, or branch of Government, or a juror;
(2) the term “person who has been selected to be a public official” means any person who has been nominated or appointed to be a public official, or has been officially informed that such person will be so nominated or appointed; and
(3) the term “official act” means any decision or action on any question, matter, cause, suit, proceeding or controversy, which may at any time be pending, or which may by law be brought before any public official, in such official’s official capacity, or in such official’s place of trust or profit.

(b) Whoever—
(1) directly or indirectly, corruptly gives, offers or promises anything of value to any public official or person who has been selected to be a public official, or offers or promises any public official or any person who has been selected to be a public official to give anything of value to any other person or entity, with intent—
(A) to influence any official act; or
(B) to influence such public official or person who has been selected to be a public official to commit or aid in committing, or collude in, or allow, any fraud, or make opportunity for the commission of any fraud, on the United States; or
(C) to induce such public official or such person who has been selected to be a public official to do or omit to do any act in violation of the lawful duty of such official or person;

I think he deserves some D.O.J. attention, based upon this law.

FR
It kinda is bribery.
Trump says he will pay legal fees for those who defend him and got caught up in violence.

But Moore is bribing Republican Electors not to vote Trump with money.

LOL..... um.... no. They BOTH are promising to pay the legal fees of those people ONLY for the actions they take.

geeezz, maybe u should pick ur head up off the floor once in awhile other than to suck (t)rumps ass.

rumps willing to pay for aggravated assault,

Moore for a vote change.

pay attention please.... see? ....the same thing. (snicker)

Greta75 -> RE: Should Michael Moore Face ... (12/19/2016 10:20:39 PM)

Yes, but you can offer to pay legal fees of someone who defended you in a brawl.

But bribing people to vote for hillary, is kinda..., a big no no.

Electors need to respect the people's vote.

If they decide to go against what their people voted for, and make their own decision, it's really, like totally against democracy.

I am just surprise Moore wants to encourage electors to disrespect people's choice.

Personally, if Hillary had won, I would have never even considered wanting her electors to switch from her, because the people have spoken and you know the thing about democratic system, is this is how it works. Majority votes win, in the US system, they chose majority electoral votes as the majority vote that is gonna count.

Just find a better democrat in 4 years time to challenge Trump. Joe Biden already say he is gonna run, but I personally think, he is not the right guy. He will lose terribly. Bernie has a better chance. But I know some people say they are too old. I never care about age. It's just a 4 years term anyway.

If it is wrong for Moore to offer to pay fines for people because that is attempting to influence their decision, then threatening to fine the person if he doesn't vote your way is just as wrong because it is still trying to influence their decision. Goose - gander, pot - kettle etc.

If this fine is not lawful, then they should be prosecuted for fining as well.

I assume it is lawful. That's why Moore offered to pay. If it was against the law, then why the hell did Moore even offer to pay. Just prosecute those people who issue the fine. Demand their prosecution, I'd say! Moore is good at inciting protests.

It's not the same, igor. The laws (of most states) state that Electors have to vote according to the popular vote in that state. That's the rule. If you break the rule, there are (or may be, as it seems faithless electors haven't always been punished for breaking the rule) consequences. In most states, Electors are, pretty much, just rubberstampers.

What Michael Moore did was quite different.

All that being said, Moore didn't try to bribe people to vote for his candidate. What he did was offer to accept their consequences if they felt compelled to violate the rules. This wouldn't result in financial benefits to the Elector if he changes his vote. The elector would be no better off than if he didn't follow the rules.

I don't think Moore didn't anything illegal.

Are you SURE you guys want to live in America? You talk about the Constitution a lot, but you sure seem to hate it.

HOW is it TREASON for an elector to do exactly what he/she is SUPPOSED to do (before authoritarian laws were passed to force electors to be puppets), and HOW is it TREASON to support one doing one's job according to one's conscience and the Constitution???

And by the way, have you heard of the First Amendment?

Michael Moore is guilty of wishful thinking. That's it.

Yes, this.

He isn't bribing them to vote a certain way any more than their states are blackmailing them into voting a certain way.

Musicmystery -> RE: Should Michael Moore Face ... (12/20/2016 5:06:11 AM)

Worse. The states are refusing to accept their vote, replacing them with someone on the spot who will do the state's bidding.

It's as if the EC were a huge waste of time and money or something.

Frankly, how is Trump threatening political ruin not worse than Moore helping with legal fees?

"Vote for me or I'll ruin you" seems pretty authoritarian and un-American from a guy who claims he loves "Article 12."
