Contrast the 1956 Republican Party Platform to the party today... what do you Trump supporters think of your forefathers?

1.) Provide Federal assistance to low-income Communities.
2.) Protect Social Security
3.) Provide asylum for refugees
4.) Extend minimum wage
5.) Improve unemployment benefits
6.) Strengthen labor laws to allow easy access to labor unions
7.) Assure equal pay for equal work regardless of sex.

This is the party I supported as a youth and to me it is the true sane party.

I know... If people read the included link they will see that low taxes, aid to small business, national defense, and a balanced budget were also included in the platform. The same thing many want today...but President Eisenhower and the party managed to do it and still defend the disadvantaged and the common worker. Why can't it be done today?

The refugees then weren't literally bomb-throwing primitives. And the argument that Republicans will do worse than Dems on SS is without merit

Etc

All of your arguments are similarly stupid

It can, but there's no will to do it.

In a recent interview, Joe Biden was asked if he would go into politics again if he could do it all over, now that he knows people are so far apart. He said, "Actually, people were MORE apart then" and rattled off a list of issues, "But back then there was a will to work together to solve these issues."

Today, since Newt went all or nothing in the early 90s, there's only one way, and that just isn't realistic, unless you want an authoritarian government -- and that's exactly were some are trying to take us.

Since 1997 the repubs have been pushing for privatization of Soc. Sec. HERE

Trump campaigned on not touching Soc. Sec. but now may go back on that too.

Repubs today as we type, are working on privatizing and cutting Soc.Sec. HERE

Dems refuse to do anything to help SS, which is doomed without intervention

All they do is criticize and grandstand on the issue for political points, which the voters shot them down for that. They are just a bitter little coastal party now

Actually, that's full of shit. Social Security was not an issue in the Trump vote.

Oh. So you think that their constant harping on the Soros / NPR fake news that Republicans hate old people made them popular

Obama hadn't run up a $21 trillion debt in 1956 either, with interest on that debt rising

Not that facts or budgets matter to Democrats like yourself

Actually, it went from 10 to 19 trillion which is an increase of 9, not 21 and he mostly did that with a Republican Congress,

Nice job of lying sock boy.

Well, they opposed the GOP cut in the SS tax under W, which, is SS is in trouble, was a dumb move.

The dems have repeatedly sought a slight increase in the payroll tax and an increase in the limit of income subject to same i.e., above $118,000+. The repubs have consistently shot those down.

Oh...and the repub party relies upon gerrymandering to win majorities the house and the EC to win the white house. Partly because [it] relies upon faction...dividing the country and most often along social i.e., emotional issues not political conservative, policy issues like small, limited govt. and truly fiscal conservative budgets and pragmatism.

The repubs rely upon policies supporting their plutocratic corporate sponsors and lowering their taxes and subsidizing their profits much more so than the dems.

Yeah, it's clear they're interested in spin rather than principles. And it's clear they're interested in manipulating elections rather than winning people over to their platform.

It's sad to see the DNC following their lead of late. Both parties are relying on people hating the other party more.

We are so ripe for a new party.
